To start with service was incredibly shaky at best at first , our server when asked what he recommends jummed right to the most expensive steaks on the menu, not everyone is a steak person, the response should have been are you a seafood, chicken , steak person? From there he could have broken down the menu, find out what your clientele wants , get to know them the rest will fall into place , another thing we asked about the wine he said served a liberty wine , he said it was the only wine they sold bye the glass , but didn't explain it was actual winery . There's alot of wineries out there , if your a waiter your essentially a sales man , pain a simplistic picture so your not confusing people, the salads had like 3 cucumbers, and one cherry tomato and no croutons. Just a wierd house salad, the house dressing was delicious, And there was no Italian wedding soup or minestrone soup . Not everyone wants a sald some people rather have a cup of soup instead. I kinda expected a better effort for what you pay here , I ordered the chicken catcatore . It like 95% veggies, I don't mind if you up charge this to like $25 but for love of God put some more meat in there they were half the size of popcorn chick so that was dossapointing , now to the great part of the meal , everyone's plate had some amazing flavors , the food itself is on point in terms of taste and overall quantity, the server in general did make a huge recovery, and had an awesome personality. Those earlier comments are an easy fix as tweak and learn to be more confident and knowledgeable in your craft . Everyone goes through . He definitely has the personality to get better and it showed bye how well he closed. We didn't make a big deal because didn't see it as some that should have been brought up yesterday and made a scene rather then some basic fine tuning things to set this service to another level. If those things improved this is a %100 one of the best Italian restaurants in New York state . It's weird because it's in the cuts and in elmira too. And up until recently I haven't been impressed with what elmira has to offer in terms of quality. This is a top 2 place to eat In elmira. Again those minor details get addressed your talking about a top 10 place in all of New York state including the city. I travel alot and eat everything and anywhere. Just look at my reviews. There honest and real. If give a 4 star or a 5 it's earned. This on the fringe of a 5 star review for me. I definitely will be back . If it's better I will edit this and make it a 5 star . It's hanging bye thread right there. I love the ambiance. In general this place is awesome because the outside suggest a mystery but when you walk inside it's like a step back in time...
Read more41st anniversary dinner for my wife, had to try this place, for years I ask her to make reservations and she just blew me off, her uniqueness. Showed up at 6 first mistake, it was quite loud older folks really can set the noise level up there. We had been seated very fast, OK it was an excellent start, the waitress was with us within a couple minutes with water and bread, nice a step above our usual steakhouse up by the mall. We had no appetizers, just ordered our dinner, we both had the "Surf & Turf" which was a 24 ounce prime rib, I ordered the chicken scampi & my wife ordered the shrimp scampi, which was part of the meal, we had a tossed salad and a baked potato also part of the Surf & Turf which is $56.xx The salad arrived in about 10 minutes it was excellent, and we had time to talk and enjoy our salad before the main course arrived. The main course arrived 12-15 minutes later which was perfect in our opinion. The prime rib wss cooked perfectly to our idea of medium rare, both pieces had a nice broiled appearance, the taste & tenderness was delicious. My wife said the shrimp 4 nice sized shrimp perfectly cooked, very lightly battered, crunchy but tender, she thought they were amazing. The chicken I had appeared to be a large breast that was pounded to tenderize it, it was in a sauce heavily tasting of garlic delicious, not a stringy breast you buy at the grocery store or it was properly tenderized prior to cooking. The bake potato was not a "Idaho baking potato" with the heavy skin and yellow coloration, it was according to my wife a "chefs potato" it was excellent, nice and creamy cooked to perfection. This place will replace the chain steak restaurant we would frequently visit. The bill was 124.xx that included 9.xx tax. We tipped the waiter $20.00 My wife and I really enjoyed our visit although a tad loud at the time we went on a Wednesday. Still an enjoyable anniversary dinner. Let's see if our next visit will be...
Read moreMy wife and I went on Valentine’s Day and although the atmosphere and service were excellent, we simply were not impressed with the food.
At the time we made reservations, we were not informed the restaurant would be operating on a limited menu. This also wasn’t announced anywhere on their website or Facebook page.
For a $54 steak, it was large but flavorless. No salt, pepper, or any hint of seasoning nor was there even a char. It was simply a large flavorless steak. The chicken in the chicken parm was excellent, however the sauce was watery and flavorless. The baked potatoes had all been made ahead of time and wrapped in foil, resulting in a cold soggy mess which, when coupled with cold butter, simply wasn’t what was expected.
We both had heard excellent things about Lib’s from our friends and looked forward to trying them for the first time, however we were disappointed.
Even on the busiest of nights restaurants should be able to uphold their reputation for quality, and Lib’s just wasn’t able to do it.
We’d love to try again sometime, but at the risk of getting a random night with limited menu, and us being too polite to send back everything on our plate (and we are by no means picky eaters) we’re unsure it’s worth the risk.
We’ve also seen the manager on the internet calling customers “cheap and broke” when discussing New York’s wage laws for tipped employees. While people are free to do as they please on the internet, it hardly seems appropriate for someone who advertises they manage a fine dining establishment to pick fights and insult customers on the internet. I would suggest that he remove any affiliation with the restaurant from his page because those actions reflect poorly on...
