Neat little gem of a place- I have driven by many times, but had not stopped by until recently.
Pleasantly surprised with the neat interior, there are many vintage photos of Elmira inside, and it is neat and clean. Seemed to be plenty of parking even during the lunch rush.
Many options on the menu- everything from basic dogs to loaded dogs, basic burgers to garbage plate burgers, chicken spiedie subs and crispy chicken sandwiches, Philly cheese steak and grilled cheese sandwiches, and boneless wings!
Also, nachos, onion rings, fried cauliflower, mozz sticks, jalapeno poppers, salads, homemade potato and macaroni salads, too.
French fries come in many different guises- by themselves or with gravy, loaded, chili cheese, or sweet potato.
Ice cream for after the meal- sundaes, cups and cones, milk shakes and floats are available.
I thought that the prices are below what I generally find when eating out in other establishments. We paid around $10 each for our lunches.
I ordered the bacon double cheeseburger and a regular order of fries. While the burger patties were not the absolute best I have ever had, overall the burger was very tasty, and well sized for the value. The fries were crispy and hot and I felt that the portion size was excellent.
My wife ordered a hotdog, and seemed pleased with it, and she thoroughly enjoyed the order of French fries with gravy. I snuck a few of them and liked the flavor of the gravy. Very tasty indeed.
Staff was amenable and friendly, and delivered food to tables.
Overall an excellent experience and will...
Read moreWell today was my first time here.. saw they claimed to be the best dogs and burgers... Let's start off with walking in the door place looked clean and ok . The welcome was not the friendliest.. in fact the older lady behind the counter made me feel as I was keeping her from something else.. but food was ordered... Then we are told go sit and it will be brought to you . Food is ordered as individual items.. no side of fries order as a separate item.. my order was a chili cheese dog, double bacon cheeseburger, and fries.. ..... While waiting I go find the rest room.. right out side the bathroom door is where the buns in packages are sitting on the cart... Hmmm yuck!! The hot dogs are pretty much as small as an Oscar mayer... Might be an Oscar Mayer dog... I expected something with a lot more meat bigger then the bun also chili has sat way to long in the pot totally tasted burnt.... At least there was flavor... The double bacon cheese burger was better had flavor would get again...the fries was more then I thought a basket full and hot...bottle of water and paid Just under $20 was disappointed for the price.. over all not sure I...
Read moreThe food is pretty tasty. The staff is friendly for the most part. The restaurant seems pretty clean.
It is however very expensive for what you're getting. I went there with my wife to try their "garbage plate", which is inspired by the wonderful Nick Tahou's garbage plates in Rochester, NY. Central Hot's garbage plate was alright, but the person making it seemingly had no idea what it was and the burgers came with buns.. which is weird. I paid about $10 for this. In Rochester you can get a tastier dish with more food, quicker and for about $8.
It'd be a 4 star if they got the price down...
