The Arnot Art Museum is a world-class institution of fine art located at 235 Lake Street in Elmira, New York, and open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10am - 5pm. A landmark in downtown Elmira, the Museum is housed in the 1833 neo-classical mansion of John Arnot. His son, Matthias H. Arnot, added a Picture Gallery in the 1880’s and bequeathed his home and collection in 1910 to become the Arnot Art Museum, which opened to the public three years later. Read moreIt was nice to walk through here. The lady at the desk told us some interesting facts about the layout of some of the rooms, that really gave depth to the art. I loved the original Arnot room. Everything was left exactly how he had it. The art was old and still so vibrant. I could have stayed I'm that for much longer. The quilts hung were beautiful! Lots of European art, mostly collected in the late 19th century is displayed in its original setting. The larger modern wing, behind the mansion, had lots of modern art, much of it for sale.
