This is a BUMMER... I was hoping to write a better review. The reason why is that Teddy's off of Valley has been a lunch hour fav for many of our coworkers . I went to that location once and and although the wait was a bit much for the type of food served (I get it it's not a fast food joint... but its also not a formal sit down with wait staff, reservations, etc... ). So when I found out that they were opening another location walking distance from my office, I was pretty pumped!
FIRST VISIT: This was at the new Crossroads location. My friend and I go at lunch time a few days after opening, and we walked back out because we ran into our coworkers and they have been waiting for their food for 30-40 mins I don't remember exactly but it was too long so we left. Understandable they recently opened and I'm sure they were working the kinks out.
SECOND VISIT: It was Taco Tuesday lunch time and they're maybe in their 2nd or 3rd week. While i was in line its seemed a bit chaotic in their food prep area (it is clean ... but staff seemed unorganized). Saw a few simple errors happen in front of me (some orders were to go and not dine-in... it happens). So I placed my order for some street tacos no onions, that again seemed to take a bit longer than expected (I get it it's lunchtime so it happens). But my order was wrong (they added onions), the staff was apologetic and offered to redo my order but by this time it was getting late and I didn't feel like waiting again because it's lunch hour and I have to get back to work. Tacos were solid. But tacos are like pizza... very hard to mess up. Again they were still kind of new to that location and maybe they were working on a few things.
THIRD VISIT:I was going to the Starbucks next-door and noticed that they had breakfast burritos now and decided to give it a try. It was a solid burrito, good portion also.
FOURTH VISIT: Office worked on Saturday which is not typical so I wanted to get them breakfast from Teddy's. I called the day before to make sure they were open which they were in that's great because it saves me a drive and I wanted to give them another shot. Whoever answered the phone was really polite and asked for my name because I wanted to remember it and thank me for their business in advance. The place was relatively empty in the morning as expected because it's a Saturday and this location is around a lot of office space so most of their traffic is on the weekdays I assume. Because it was empty I expected my order to get quicker than the other times, but I waited 30 to 40 minutes for a to-go order. Again the staff there was super friendly they did say that their lunch menu was also available during breakfast hours so I ordered a carne asada burrito. Un-lucky for me I was the only one that had an incorrect order. My carne asada burrito morphed into a chorizo and potato burrito, which is a good mistake that I can handle, except for the fact that there was a hair a PRETTY LONG HAIR IN THE BURRITO which totally KILLED it for me!
There was another Mexican restaurant at this exact location location (GUACS) which was also pretty solid. Not sure exactly why they went out of business. But it would be great if Teddy's can use this review as feedback and turn things around because if one solid restaurant can close down in a matter of months so can another. I would love to be able to write a new review but for the moment these have been my experiences with this location. Aside from that the place is clean and neat. Their website doesn't look to be up and running yet so you're not going to get a lot of info aside from anything you see on Yelp and Google. Best of...
Read moreFood is great, customer service however was horrible. My husband and I have been eating at Teddys since they first opened their first location on valley, we love their food and have never experienced any bad customer service, sadly today was different. Upon entering the location (place was empty btw) and walking to the register we were not even greeted by the girl at the register, she didn’t even look like she wanted to be at work on a Sunday, I mean who does but at least show some courtesy to your customers. The first thing I asked for was 4 PLAIN CHICKEN TACOS for my kids, then I asked for mine and my husbands orders with everything on it. The whole time I was placing my ordering this girl was playing with her nails and clearly not paying attention to what I was saying. So first order that comes out is the chicken tacos with cilantro and onion, I asked her kindly that I had ordered them plain, and she looks at me with attitude and annoyance and all she says is “alright” not even a sorry or anything. My order came out good, but then again she messed up the order by giving my husband plain tacos. When he brought this to her attention she yanked the plate out of my husbands hands said “she asked for plain tacos” with attitude. Yes I did only ask for PLAIN CHICKEN TACOS, but never mentioned for any other plates to be plain, plus my husbands tacos were of asada not chicken. This girl clearly lacks customer service skills and really looks like she hates her job. Maybe Teddy’s Tacos management should really lookout for the people they’re hiring to avoid...
Read moreNot to be confused with L.A.'s popular birria taco joint, "Teddy's Red Tacos," this "Teddy's Tacos" business is owned and operated by the Castro family, Teddy Castro and his sister Adriana. The family's 82-year-old matriarch, Elena Castro, is from the Mexican state of Nayarit. It has been her recipes that have made "Teddy's Tacos" a worthy taco destination.
I ordered the "Azteca Taco," made of chorizo, grilled cheese, pinto beans, and avocado sauce in a corn tortilla. I'm not usually a fan of chorizo-based tacos, as they often are too salty and too oily, but it was highly recommended, so I chanced it. Teddy's Tacos' "Azteca Taco" is perhaps the most superb chorizo taco I've had. Nothing about it sat heavy on my palate or stomach. Through some culinary witchcraft, the grilled-to-order chorizo is relatively lean and clean -- the rich flavors in the taco come more from its avocado cream than the sausage grease. Don't get me wrong, this is not even close to "diet food," but the calories seem worthwhile due to the flavor bursting from the taco, and I haven't even gotten to the delicious layer of griddled cheese, fried until crispy, or the potted beans that help neutralize the powerful flavors of the chorizo. The accompanying mango habanero sauce provided on the side is flammable. Be very careful with this stuff, my friends. A few dabs are all...
