River pavilion is in a large waterfront resort complex, nice infrastructure and amazing views of the Hudson. That’s the best part of the restaurant they have a mixed menu and lot of Italian on the menu a specialty pizza section . Restaurant is dog friendly which means they will let you dine with your dog. Overall I found their culinary department and their Bar to be very average for the type and class of restaurant they claim to be . We ordered Hummus platter and ceviche for starters Hummus was sweet and creamy (hummus is definitely not made sweet ) this is served with Pita which was fine and raw veggies (zucchini, yellow squash , peppers , carrots and celery) Ceviche were good well seasoned. Drinks : ordered : blueberry ale (my take is this is a big confused beer not sure if it’s juice with fizz or beer because did it taste like beer) Old fashioned — too light on alcohol , was not smoked and was very sweet Mojito : this was also generously sweet Interestingly : if you get a high table you are give. Paper napkins , beer in plastic cups where as other tables get formal setup with proper silverware and cloth napkins. Main course: we ordered margarita pizza and a sausage pie with truffle fries Both pizza bases were crispy and thin which is good however their sauces are tasteless even mozzarella was very average and looks like they are in short supply of basil. Just a few 100 miles on the banks of same Hudson one would have a very different and Devine pizza experiences in NJ and NYC. Anyways .. coming to truffle fries, they are very very ordinary fries with some truffle oil probably flavored dressing again very ordinary.. They are a busy restaurant probably that’s why they do not accept customization, I wanted grilled boneless chicken for my pet (obviously this would have been a paid order) however they declined stating it’s with bones so we cannot debone and prepared chicken .. anyways Overall : great views with...
Read moreAtmosphere and scenery are lovely. Food and service were mediocre.
On arrival there was no indication of whether we should seat ourselves or wait to be seated. It was the latter. We chose to sit at an outside table (not underneath the pavillion) which meant we had to place our food order at the bar and it would be delivered to us at our table. Sounds good on paper except:
bartender wasn't attentive and appeared not to be working efficiently or effectively. It's unclear what he was preoccupied with, but it wasn't serving customers. No sense of urgency. He saw us, we spoke to him, but he took his time getting to us. Difficult to tell if it's all due to systemic issues or just that bartender.
outside tables don't have numbers and you aren't given anything to mark your table for the server to find/identify you to bring you your food. A lot of us out there were entertained intermittently throughout the night by the sight of servers roaming around asking various tables "Did you order the meatballs?", "Did you order the pizza?" It was a scavenger hunt. Anyone could have claimed these dishes. Obviously not an efficient use of staff's time. That's a management/systemic issue
When our pizza eventually made its way to our table the server seemed pleased with himself. As he started to walk away after dropping off the pizza, we got his attention and asked him to bring us plates or napkins as we had nothing else on the table other than the pizza and our drinks. Friendly server, but seemed untrained.
As for the food itself - the pizza looked great, but was sadly lacking in taste. It just needed a little something - garlic, oregano, crushed pepper...something.
The drinks were fine, prices seemed reasonable. Among us we had 1 wine, 1 proseco, 1 beer.
We'd come back for the view and give it another chance. Worst case, a nice place to...
Read moreThe River Pavilion at Hutton Brickyards is hard to beat for scenery: sitting under the open-air pavilion with sweeping Hudson River views really makes you forget you’re in a former brickyard. We had hoped for a riverside table (we reserved one), but the hostess didn’t hold it—even though, in our case, it rained later and we actually preferred the covered spot.
Service was very average overall. Sierra, our server, was friendly and attentive, and she guided us through the menu with real enthusiasm. On the flip side, I had to flag down the hostess for salt and pepper—she cheerfully said she’d ask our waiter, and we got it eventually. The food runners forgot our cutlery entirely, so we ended up making them come back twice to fetch forks and knives.
Starters – Spiced cauliflower: nicely seasoned and good spicy mix. – Clam chowder: smooth, comforting, and well seasoned.
Mains – Trout: the standout dish—perfectly cooked and dressed with a simple, fresh salad. – Burger: juicy and flavorful, though the brioche bun was a touch over-toasted. – Fries: straight out of the freezer—crispy but bland. – Side salad: fresh greens with a tangy vinaigrette.
Dessert – Baba au rhum: unfortunately, this was a miss—soggy cake and barely any rum syrup. Below expectations for such a lovely spot.
All told, great location and a handful of very tasty dishes, but uneven service and a disappointing dessert keep me from recommending it wholeheartedly. If you go, stick with the seafood and skip the...
