I had heard good things about this place, but my experience was absolutely fantastic. My experience was wonderful. If you are in town you should absolutely go here.
I asked the fellow behind the counter for a drink recommendation. I forget which he gave me, but it was literally the best chai that I have ever had. Very forward cardamon flavor, but it wasn't overpowering like many cardamon teas I've had in the past. This was very light and flavorful and refreshing.
I also had a dessert which I believe was called Beehive Cheese, it was like a cross between cheese danish and monkey bread. Saying that doesn't describe how absolutely tasty it was. It was light and drizzled with honey, and so easy to pull apart, and I don't have the culinary vocabulary to describe how much I liked this. See my attached photo, this was a large portion of food. Between this and my drink, my total was about ten dollars before tip - significantly cheaper than other cafes I frequent.
The decor was humble. It wasn't extravagant or garish, it was practical and aesthetically pleasing. It was comfortable. It was a cozy atmosphere. There was a canopy of fake vines which was a particularly nice touch, but again, it did not distract our attention away from our food and drink, or away from each other.
The man behind the counter was friendly and affable. The man from the kitchen came out to check on us, and he was similarly pleasant. Honestly, my only criticism is that the exterior looks uninviting - once I passed through the front door, there was not a single thing I'd change.
Please do yourself a favor, and make this cafe a regular...

Hands down, it was the best food I have ever had. The breakfast sandwich, Eggs N Such, and a slice of the Bee Hive were nothing short of culinary masterpieces. Each bite was a burst of flavor that left my taste buds dancing with delight.
And let's not forget about the Chai tea – it was simply amazing! Rich, aromatic, and perfectly brewed; it's a must-try for anyone who appreciates a good cup of tea.
Beyond the fantastic food, the customer service was exceptional. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel special. Knowing that it's a family business, with the owner hailing from Brooklyn and his son working alongside, added a personal touch to the experience.
What really stood out was how fresh everything tasted. It's evident that they take pride in their craft, using the finest ingredients to create mouthwatering dishes. I was even informed that a new batch of the Bee Hive was coming out of the oven soon – talk about dedication to freshness!
In summary, Socotra Cafe is a hidden gem that offers not only outstanding food but also a warm, welcoming atmosphere. I can't wait to return and savor more of their delectable creations. If you're in the area, do yourself a favor and pay them a visit – you won't be...
Read moreFirst time here. I got a regular coffee (Arabic?), this one was a little on the stronger side of what I'm used to, but It wasn't bad by any means. Although it could have been a little bit hotter. Got an iced caramel machiato for my wife, who's usually picky about her drinks, but it was delicious. Well worth a trip back to try it again. We didn't try any food, but they had some cakes (cheesecake?) in the display case, and they looked delicious. I will be ordering some next time for sure! I will also try some of the other coffees next time, I didn't realize they had so many different types of coffee until after I ordered. The employee was very polite. Good customer service, nice atmosphere, and looked like a very clean and well-kept restaurant. If you're like me and can't stand the national "chain brand" coffee restaurants (Dunkin, Starbucks, Tim Hortons), this is a place I'd highly recommend. Love to support locally owned restaurants, those are the ones where you find all the good, fresh, authentic food/beverages....and this one is the newest one on my list....
