The Dirty Gringo — Restaurant in City of Ogdensburg

Traveling and looking for a good place for lunch. Reading reviews for this restaurant---4 ½ stars---thought we couldn't miss. There were only 3 people having lunch when we walked in. Their menu is numerous and very varied. We ordered taco salads--a shell filled with lettuce, a bit of chicken and not much else. We had to pay $4 for chips and salsa---never had to do that anywhere else. Salsa tasted like diced canned tomatoes and the chips were from the grocery store--the thick round ones. Got a side of guac for $1.25 and it was in a little pill cup. Even black beans added to the salad was $1.75. You can buy a whole can for $.79. Service was very fast and folks were friendly but didn't knock themselves out to extend themselves. Don't know how they were awarded 4.5 stars. Certainly wasn't more than 1 star in our love of Tex-Mex food experience. Even Moe's is way above this. And who sells chips out of a bag. They're complimentary everywhere we go. Went one time, because I recently moved to the area and was told it has the best Mexican food. The food itself was mediocre, but I was especially not impressed with the staff. I asked for no peppers in my burrito bowl. Received peppers. No big deal, it happens. Normally I would just pick them out but it was impossible so I brought it back. Was rudely told that it was my fault because I didn't specify what peppers I didn't want. I said no peppers. Period. I was also told that the next time I get my food wrong, I will have to pay for a replacement. Needless to say, I won't be back. Not going to give it a 5 star but not a 1 star either because the food was good. It was a busy evening and we went in and placed an order to go. Waited close to 15 minuets for or food. As we sat and waited other customers came in placed their orders and had gotten their food. After the 15 minuets I decided to leave because I like most are very impatient. My wife sat in their another minuet and asked where I our food was. They accidentally gave it to some one else. Which was no big deal.
