A true treasure, well worth the visit. The Frederic Remington Museum is rather small, but, unlike many museums, contains many original paintings and sculptures by Remington. I like Western Art, and have visited a few of the museums dedicated to Charlie Russell, but none has as complete and comprehensive collection as does the Frederic Remington Museum.
I would particularly like to acknowledge the depth of knowledge and enthusiasm for the lady who took our admission and gave us an overview of the museum. I learned a lot, and certainly more than I expected given that I have admired Remington for some time. It was particularly gratifying that our guide imparted the enthusiasm for Remington's work, and, more importantly, pointed out Remington's unique contributions to Western Art to my wife.
Take the time to visit the Frederic Remington Museum. It is well worth the time, and the staff will insure a...
Read moreThis is a very interesting, specialized museum and worth a visit if you're in the area. Besides multiple bronzes by Remington, they also have a gallery dedicated to different phases of his painting and sketch art and helpful docents who can answer your questions about it. In the main house, you'll get to see some of the art that Remington and his wife collected, as well as some of the Tiffany glass work in the windows of the historic building. Upstairs, there is a nice exhibit of some of the bronze work of Sally James Farnham, who was inspired by (and friends with) Remington and a talented and successful artist in her own right. Farnham's sculptures tend towards the more massive size, but the museum showcases some of the smaller pieces and one large sculpture on the main floor of the museum when you...
Read moreLoved it!
It was a "quick" visit. It took us about 2 hours to see everything with a reasonable pace. It will take you 3-4 hours if you want to read and look at every piece of art one by one.
We enjoyed the visit. We learned about Freredic Remington and his influence/impact. Great and impressive art he made!
Upstairs there was an exposition for other artists.
The building itself is apparently very old (about 200 years old) but very well maintained. I was a bit surprised to see the effort they put into maintaining all the artwork!
Staff is very friendly and nice (hi young landy and young man) :)
Price was very reasonable (15 usd) and souvenir shop very cool with very nice artwork/reproductions.
I 100 recommend if you're visiting the city. It's a must (there isn't a lot of to do...
