We stopped at Quiche et Crepe on our drive home from Montreal to the greater NYC area. As foodies and worldwide travelers, we appreciate excellent, homemade cuisine and were delightfully surprised by the food quality and the service. The cuisine was incredibly fresh and perfectly prepared, from their special breakfast "lasagna" and quiche Lorraine with an incredibly light crust baked in a clay quiche pan from France to the super fresh baby spinach salad with wonderfully tender chicken, and the lovely poached pear tart. The service was equally delightful and uplifting - attentive, helpful, and genuinely cheerful. We also enjoyed sitting outside on the deck in the back on a beautiful summer's day and appreciated the extra ambience created by a bubbling fountain.
We had the opportunity to chat with the very hands-on owners, an amazingly friendly couple who literally put their heart and soul into this restaurant. One secret to their great-tasting food is that they shop daily and choose the finest fresh ingredients. You won't see bulk delivery trucks pulling up outside here. But I think the real secret sauce, if you will, is their passion for preparing and serving absolutely high-quality, homemade cuisine made with TLC - the kind you'd find at a wonderful café in France. The husband cooks everything from scratch, and is up and in the restaurant in the wee hours of the morning before opening each day to prepare the days menu.
We highly recommend this quaint place tucked away in Plattsburgh. Our only regret is that we don't live nearby. But we'll definitely stop each time we're heading North or to the Lake Placid area. We'll even go out of the way to return. Yes, it...
Read moreMy companions and I were fortunate to stumble upon Quiche et Crêpe during our road trip from Montreal to New York City. Walking into the eatery felt like returning home. The establishment is run by a hospitable couple who, we suspect, are also the owners. Their palpable passion is interwoven throughout the entire menu.
Our breakfast was composed of farm-fresh eggs, sourced from a local distributor, which brought a delightful freshness to our plates. The standout feature, however, was the multilingual staff - the woman serving us could converse in French. This was a delightful surprise for us Montrealers, enabling us to order in our mother tongue and enjoy a warm chat.
The restaurant’s terrace is a charm, bathing in generous sunlight and inviting relaxation. Admittedly, both the exterior and interior of the establishment may appear somewhat dated, but don’t let that deter you. The aesthetics in no way overshadow the excellence of their cuisine or the quality of their service.
And a note to sweet lovers - the dessert display was too tempting! We’ll certainly be making a return visit to indulge in those delightful-looking treats. Quiche et Crêpe is truly a hidden gem along this route, mixing comfort and...
Read moreBeware the sticker shock at the end of your meal! We were looking for somewhere unique and local and followed signs to this restaurant. When we arrived we were told there were no crepes today only four types of quiche were available. We chose two different kinds of quiche and they were fine, light and fluffy, but nothing to write home about and needed some salt.
The owner was friendly and chatted with us, but when we heard him talking to other customers it did become clear that there were only 3 slices of quiche left and it was only around 2:00.
They had a surprising array of desserts that looked delicious, we chose the key lime and a chocolate mousse cake. The key lime was very tasty. The big shock came when we went to pay our bill and found out that for two regular sized slices of quiche, two desserts and two iced teas the bill was $64 and that did not include tip.
While the experience was ok and a bit quaint, it was in no way a $64 +tip experience. We saw $16.99 for quiche on the menu and assumed that was for an entire quiche- not one small slice! We will not be going back nor recommending due to the price, and that the quality was only ok and the plates and silverware were not...
