El Sabor de las Islas — Restaurant in City of Rochester

I've heen coming here for years, since a kid coming with my mom and now in my 30s. These are new ppl from who I remember. It was recently remodeled and looks a little better. The food is pretty good. The portions are good if you get a large order with meat & rice but they are stingy with "house hot sauce," ranch and other sauces. They give u ONE teaspoon size tiny little container of extra sauce when you ask. I'm on a low carb diet bcz I eat too much rice & beans, potatoes etc and got some extra back n belly fat ughhh. I asked for just oxtails and salad without rice and they tried to charge me more than the amount posted, I said no, how is it more with me getting less. So then she said ok give it to you same price. So im like this is still too much. I'm getting less and you're using a smaller container and wanted to put the salad in a separate container for $4 more on top of the $21.38 (cant remember the exact change amount) instead of with my oxtails. For just oxtails, no rice & beans, no plantains. Salad normally comes with it so why am i paying extra just because I don't want rice and she refused to put it in the same container with my oxtails. They have terrible customer service. They never say hello, smile or friendly like the previous owners. They are stingy with pork skin also. I ended up with just oxtails. Found another restaurant who will give just oxtails and salad $3 less and they also have jerk...

For me this is the best Aunthentic Dominican food outside of my friend's mothers kitchen. Small restaurant but it has big LOVE as u will see when coming in, seeing 20ppl ALL FAMILY working together EVERY TIME. Sometimes they're literally stepping on & over eachother bcz it's so busy..Lunch time is the craziest but their stewed chicken with yellow rice/beans & (light red beans sometimes) extra juice on the rice with an order of fresh cooked plantain is worth every bit of the wait.( they DON'T have ample parking..Bcz as I said it STAYS BUSY. If I had to give ONE NEGATIVE lack of parking would be THE ONLY THING I COULD SAY) It's a small gem of a spot on the northeast side of town)they have a menu that includes beef pork & chicken options. They also have grab & go items like empanadas & potato balls if u want a quick bit or just dont have time to wait. But even the wait seems like nothing bcz it's so busy ur watching them move like a well oiled machine them BOOM ORDERS UP!! GO AHEAD AND TRY IT TODAY. I have ate here so far over 10+ times. I have never had a problem with my food. My problem is the service. Even though I spend 100x what the sauce cost I always get a horrible attitude when I ask for 2 (even if I’m willing to pay) they would rather argue over sauce than to be nice to a constant customer. I’ve never been rude and never made the order too hard. It seems like everytime I go in there they want my money but not me. It’s so sad that my order is the same every single time and a sauce is too hard to add. From just walk ins I’ve spent over $100 alone in the pass few months. To mess up a relationship like that over a sauce is ridiculous. I will be calling tomorrow to let you know how disappointed it is to support a small business and they hate you for sauce. It’s...
