Seriously do not eat here. I tend to shy away from leaving bad reviews but I just spent $50 on food I didn't eat. The utensils we dirty. Everything on the table were coated in dirt and old food like they literally never even wpie the condiment bottles. Then the food itself was gross. The coffee was either extremely watered down or decaf. The half/half were in this dirty take out bowl with milk all over them. The food was disgusting. I ordered French toast which weren't cooked through, they were mush inside. I ordered scramble eggs with cheese, there was no cheese. My Dad ordered a cheese omelet with bacon on The side. They ended up putting the strips of bacon inside the omelet. Like cooked separately but then wrapped in egg.. ?? My mom ordered this Country plate that was a mix of a giant piece of ham and Burnt chicken. Covered in gravy sauce. It just was all bad. And there were literally only my table and one other table so it wasn't that they were busy.

The sad part is years ago this restaurant used to be amazing. It had the best menu. Literally lines out the door. The food was amazing even though they were packed to the brim with customers. If you are expecting to ear at the old James Brown Place please know that this is a completely different place.

I still ended up paying for the food that we didn't eat because idk why. They made it so I felt bad not paying. I also like to avoid conflict especially with my parents being there. I also still left a tip because its the right thing to do. Also the waiter asked if I wanted to remove anything from the bill. I declined because honestly, everything needed to be removed. Nothing was eaten. I didnt even drink the coffee. I've just never paid $50 at a restaurant and...

Some of the worst vegan food I have ever had, taste was so off I had to stop eating asap . The atmosphere is disgusting and just watching the workers walk around and make the meals with all of they’re dirty cook ware and sauce holders was a sight to see. I am now dealing with nausea & just blown away they are still open to the public with a kitchen and building this disgusting. Have they given up??

EDIT/REPLY to owner: Your cookware and kitchen workspace was indeed filthy, we sure did order 50 dollars of food and ate NOTHING sent back everything besides the French toast my girlfriend ordered which I expected to pay for after explaining how disgusting everything was nicely to the server. We did not bring our own drinks, we ordered water and the server brought us water bottles. After I explained how disgusting everything was and gave them back all of my food beside the French toast, she brings me a check charging me still for things I gave back and didn’t even touch after one bite. I explained to her that I would pay for the French toast since it was the only Edible thing, and to remove the hash browns off of the check , and keep the 5-7 dollar tip for our 3 dollar side of French toast (only thing my girlfriend ate). We are actually very healthy and have been healthy for months now also we were having a great morning and felt awesome until we tasted that disgusting food. Clean the place thoroughly, possibly hire new staff, and definitely change your recipes. Oh, and your attitude. Just give up on the place if you can’t fix what’s actually happening and deal with the truth !! If I could give 0 stars now I truly would, especially since whoever replied to...

I'm in Rochester on business and have had breakfast at James Brown's Place several times during my stay.

The food and the service are both amazing. The people complaining about the fact that the grill is right behind the service counter apparently haven't spent much time in diners. That's a very typical set up. If you ever find yourself in the south check out The Waffle House.

I had the opportunity to meet James himself. He is a very friendly and interesting man who runs a terrific establishment. April who serves as a waitress and hostess is an amazing young lady. If I owned a business I'd want her working for me. After just one visit she remembered my name, specifics about my job, and my order. I always drink unsweetened iced tea and she always has one ready for me to go when I leave.

The food is delicious. The cooks do a great job. I haven't had anything there that wasn't among the best I've ever had. The place is usually not very busy first thing in the morning on weekdays which is when I stop in, but I hear it can get very busy on Friday nights and on the weekends. I understand why.

If you have the opportunity I would strongly encourage you to stop in sometime. Even if you have to go out of your way. You...

Long live James browns! What an utter disappointment this place has become. Having not been in the past year due to covid was unaware of the change in ownership or the sad experience waiting for us when we arrived. Instead of the usually busy vibrant diner we are use to we found a sad shadow of its former self. Instead of the joyous greeting your use to when entering we stood there in a very slow restaurant for almost 10 min before being acknowledged. The place is staffed by what appear to be disintrested teens and a child whos very bad at taking drink orders. Hahaha The food was beyond sad. Every thing was overcooked and extremely bland. Eggs so hard they crumbled if you looked at them. French toast that caN best be described as grilled bread. Im not sure they ever saw a batter. Just really sad. Possibly the worst case of gentrification I've ever seen. Just awful. So sad to see this is what has become of one of the best little joints in town.

From the outside you might wonder if it's worth going in. I found the curb appeal lacking but when you enter you are greeted with a comfortable and homey sight. Menus are located on the wall at each seat. The service was fast and friendly. Coffee was sub par but I was blown away with the food and was able to try several things. Nutella stuffed French toast, eggs Benedict (of which they have 100 different varieties that rotate weekly), eggs and home fries, and one of their signature sandwiches called a MoFo. This is a sandwich in which the bun is actually two grilled cheese sandwiches on Texas toast. Incredible food. I highly recommend looking past the unfriendly outside and entering for a delicious meal.

Today was our first visit since the new owners took over. They're doing a fantastic job of keeping the same feel of the place while making some positive changes! The family was very welcoming and made us feel like we were at home. The new cook is a very kind young man who took the time to make sure we were all happy with our meals. I was pleasantly surprised at the vegan options and my little one loved her vegan pancakes. We can't wait to see what exciting things they do with the place and will definitely be back soon!
