Learn moreI ordered a pie from Nino’s after a quick google search of “Rochester Pizza”, kinda of liking the appeal of this low key type joint. Just trying to get a quick and easy Friday night grab-dinner, I wasn’t thinking much or even expecting much from this restaurant.......that is until I opened the box. Not to gab off like some “Hauté” food critic, but this pizza was something beyond food. It was an experience. The robust sauce was flavorful and demanded to be acknowledged, yet didn’t over-shower to the whole symphony. The crust was the perfect balance of char and crunch on the outside, with the perfect balance of warm-chewy/ fluffy on the inside; like Deadpool kind of. But there was something beyond the immediate flavor that really took hold; and that was love. I’ve had pizza here and there. In the crowded streets of Brooklyn, rad pizza-pubs of Chicago, the blooming boroughs of Jersey, the weird little mom and pop joints of the Midwest, and of course the abominations that exist in my home area of Northern NY. And each place really has its merits ( accept maybe the North Country). But here in Rochester, Nino’s puts forth a pie that speaks more then “ damn that was good”. Nino’s pizza took me back to summers with the grandparents as a kid. Nothing fancy, but homey and comfortable, and full of family passion. It was like I was back in those innocent years when time stood still, and magic still existed. When times were much simpler, and you didn’t have a care in the world. When the hardships of life were unbeknownst, and love was always found unconditionally. I tip my hat to Nino’s. 50 years going strong, and I hope the continue forever more. Not just for the brilliance of cuisine, but for passion as well. And if not just for their own sake, then for the...
Read moreNino's is the real deal. Nino & his son run this modest pizzeria just as you would experience in Italy, Sicily, New York, Boston etc. While the shop has a no-frills atmosphere, the quality of the pizza is first class for a reasonable price. First, the dough & crust are excellent and cooked just right. The sauce is very good, if you want it spicer, just ask or order with sausage. The mozzarella, sautéed mushrooms and roasted red peppers are all excellent and the weight of the pizza is double what you get from chains. We usually order a half-sheet with toppings for 3 people and always have enough left over for a second meal. Finally, Nino takes great pride in bring your pizza to the counter, opening the the lid and asks for your approval before telling you the price & accepting your money. If you want to experience authentic Italian pizza, you have...
Read moreAfter moving to Rochester a year ago, I’ve struggled to find any decent pizza in the area. Just tried Nino’s for the first time. I love it. Absolutely every bit of the experience was special. I’m the kind of guy that can appreciate a business that doesn’t need to change. Picking up the pizza, chatting with the owner, and bringing the pizza back to my family brought back a nostalgic feeling of a simpler time. I will say that my favorite pizza is a New Haven or Brooklyn style, which Nino’s is not. Nino’s is a hearty thick crust pie and I can’t recall having a better thick crust pizza. He doesn’t skimp on cheese or toppings. I can tell they are very proud of what they do. I’m so happy to have found Nino’s. They have a new...
