Lorenzo's Cafe — Restaurant in City of Schenectady

I would strongly advise against visiting this place. I worked here for about a month, and the experience was deeply disappointing. The environment is chaotic, unprofessional, and, frankly, concerning on multiple levels.

Almost daily, the owner would get into loud arguments with staff members — often in front of customers. It created a tense and uncomfortable atmosphere for everyone. The kitchen, refrigerators, and freezers were in very poor condition and clearly not maintained properly. Cleanliness and food safety seemed to be an afterthought.

The food is prepared using very low-quality oil, and the overall hygiene and food handling practices made me question whether it was even safe to eat. One busy day, instead of handling the volume of orders professionally, the owner told the staff to shut the doors early and even told me to “find another job” because he couldn’t manage both regular orders and a catering event and wanted to quit.

The owner’s behavior was consistently erratic and unprofessional. It made working there extremely uncomfortable, and I ultimately had to leave because the situation became unbearable.

The owner doesn’t care for the business whatsoever at all, he doesn’t care what food he puts out as long as it’s out. He also has trash talked multiple customers.

Over the weekend it was my first time going out to eat at this restaurant. I have to say after the price we paid for brunch and the condition of the restaurant we won’t be returning. The restaurant was filthy. I also don’t expect a McDonald’s priced meal but I would’ve expected to be charged properly instead of being over charged. We left smelling like grease, they charged us for the containers which is fine IF WE WERE TOLD ahead of time. Also wasn’t aware that we needed to specify that we wanted our children’s food from the kids menu. They are young they aren’t 15 years old so it should’ve been obvious. But nope they got all huge meals & we were charged over $9 for bacon that was suppose to be included in the CHILDRENS meal. I’m not one to make reviews after every restaurant but this one needed it. Not to mention the two gentlemen waiters being rude to the other waitress in front...

Unlike the first time when we had the Homemade Cream of Mushroom soup this visit was disappointing. Ordered the Cream of Chicken with Rice soup and it tasted strongly of onions...also had not only rhe usual carrots and celery, but also peas and corn in it....had to have them take it back because of the overbearing taste of onions....waitress offered another suggestion and I tried the Italian Wedding Soup. Another disappointment due to meatballs were loaded with Black Pepper and I had to try my best to eat because I had taken my insulin. Waitress offered bread at beginning of order but neglected to inform me of cost of $1.50 for 2 slices of day old bread. It was a bit dry and only middle was soft. It was disappointing after we had had such a good lunch prior when we had the Homemade Cream of Mushroom Soup. I hope they can try better.....they do make good...
