Attempted to support local business and eat a local diner. Sheri's was NOT it. Initially, it seemed pleasant enough, not too busy, and the namesake, Sheri, who was part waiter, cashier, and part cook seemed pleasant enough. My brother and I started with dinner coffee and after about 15 minutes placed our orders for a 6 egg omelette and a French toast meal.
That is where the "good" service ended.
We then proceeded to wait over an hour, watching as patrons coming in after us being served before us, an all to refill our coffee ONCE, and an older gentleman randomly asking us if we wanted a slice of cake... BEFORE EVEN RECEIVING our meals.
After about 30-40 minutes, my brother was served JUST his French toast, the remainder of the mask arrived 10 minutes later, while meal hadn't arrived at all. 10 minutes later, the cook proceeds to inform me that he made my order wrong and would fix if I wished. I started we had already been there almost an hour, no need to fix, just bring me the meal. Meanwhile my brother inspects his meal. When served, the toast was burnt on one side and soft on the other so they cut the slice in half and folded it into itself so when presented bright side was up. The "bacon", (we ordered turkey bacon) was still soft, greasy and had a GREEN tint to it. My brother was rightfully upset and stated he would only pay for what he ate... Mind you I still hasn't received my meal with the "mistake"...5 minutes later the cook comes up with my meal and it's visibly cold, no steam, the toast is soggy, almost like it has just been sitting there before brought to us. I immediately notified them that I would be taking the meal to go as we had been there OVER am hour at this point, his meal was subpar, my meal was late, the service was minimal, and we had been in well over an hour, watching others after us come in, be seated, and be served, and begin to eat. The cook offered a dry apology and no sort of corrective recourse... Basically a "take it or leave it" mentality. The namesake proceeded to argue with my brother over the quality of his meal, even as he shows her the green turkey bacon...She doesn't even apologize, just continues ton say, "well, what do you want me to do, we have you your money back"...She proclaimed they were busy, yet when we came in, there were more empty tables than filled...I didn't want to point it out, but we were literally the ONLY POC inside dining. Being that it was Veteran's Day, there were quite a few older gentleman inside, all sitting at the counter... But nowhere near a full house, and nowhere near "Busy" My brother paid for the portion of his meal, and they not only charged me full for my meal, but then didn't give em my entire order as I placed a order to go, that I did not receive, but to avoid any further issues, I paid and left.
I don't go to restaurants to bash them or look for flaws, however even with them most visible I still attempted to enjoy, hoping good service and food would alleviate the perceived tension.
The service, 0 The employees, 0 And the food was so bad my dog wouldn't even eat it(and yes I tried to feed him as not to waste it)
I don't support local often outside of our city's pizzerias, however, in this most recent attempt, I am severely disappointed in EVERYTHING about "Sheri's Diner"especially when a veteran and his brother decide to choose it as their spot for a needed brunch.
Definitely a place I will NEVER...
Read moreThis is based off from only 1 visit, on a Sunday with a full house. We were seated as we walked in (3 of us, 2 adults & 10 yr old). The experience went down hill from there .... I have worked " on the road" for over 20 yrs, not that I am a expert restaurant critic but I am not a "weekender". The place is clean & bright, it has an open floor plan which helps the waitress keep an eye on the customers drinks, food etc ... At this day & time, there should have been 2 waitresses not 1. (In her defense, there's to much to keep up on for 1 person.) The 1st ✓ against her is that our 10 yr old ordered a juice with her breakfast, the problem is she never got the juice till 3 more requests for it were made & we were 1/2 way done with the food. The 2nd ✓ is the absolute lack of refilling our drinks (1 soda & 1 coffee) as well as not checking on us after bringing us our orders, another seemingly popular habit now a days (I find very irritating & unprofessional) is not taking the empty plates, glasses (after drink refills). She is guilty of that as well I use the ✓mark system, if any worker gets 3 ✓'s I no longer deal with them, if a dish/special gets 3 I will not have it again. Most of all if an establishment gets 3 ✓'s ... I will not go back. It's time to leave the waitress alone ..... the food. The best part ? it came out fast. I ordered the "homemade sausage gravy and biscuits, the biscuits (cheapest part of the meal) are small & rather hard. The quantity of sausage in the gravy was decent, but the gravy was very starchy (maybe from trying to thicken it ?). Either way without a drastic change in the special I won't choose that again (3 ✓'s). The other adult dish, an omelette with home fries. Omelette was very good, but the home fries were not only not crunchy as ordered, they're cold as the soda. The childs meal was pancakes with sausage, the pancakes got a thumbs up, but wouldn't eat the sausage after just 1 bite, I was told it was "nasty" .... this from a child who is 80% carnivore. Last note .... it took way to long to get our cheque, actually we didn't we waited 10 mins (table still loaded with empty plates & glasses), I had to walk up and ask to cash out. The building is all new and very enjoyable to be in. Well thought out floor plan, decorations are nice and it has a great location with good potential. But they need to rethink their staffing for seating/drinks, waitresses and cashing out. The food needs to be .... detailed more. I will wait patiently if I receive great service, quality food/portions and I would come back. * ( Drove from Cazenovia to try...
Read more5 Stars all the way! Yes that's right... We ate breakfast so let's stick to that. It is only a breakfast and lunch place. The food( eggs, pancakes, bacon, sausage, home fries and coffee), all were excellent! And I mean cooked just as if homemade. This is not something I could say these days about most places, but yep the eggs were cooked just as ordered( over medium no loose white) the pancakes were thin and flavorful ( not dry and tasteless), bacon was crispy as ordered, sausage browned, juicy and tasty, home fries just yummy good, and oh the coffee, I saved the best for last The coffee is such an important part of a good breakfast and it sure past the test at Sheri's and our cups was kept full, there were so many servers working keeping everything moving nice and smoothly throughout the restaurant. Even Sheri was running around working hard! It was a real pleasure to watch and even more so to find a place that hit all the boxes ( a rarity)! We'll have to return, maybe...
