I have only been here on a few occasions but I have never been disappointed with the the buffet. On this occasion we ordered water with lemon thinking it was cheaper. The waiter informed us that the drinks came with the buffet. The buffet is really affordable. There was also a server at the buffet that was on the ball with keeping everything clean and topped off. Everything I tried on the buffet was really good. I think they rotate their selections . They normally have a selection of soups to choose from. This time they had a cabbage soup that was to die for. They had some sinful meatballs that tasted like meatloaf. They seem to always have fried chicken. Which I don't really go for so I couldn't inform you on that. I think they always have baked chicken as well. That is what I go for and it is always good. They also normally have some sort of fried fish. I normally skip this as well. It is normally breaded with cornmeal. I assume it is Catfish which I do not like. However on this occasion my cousin informed me that it was Whitefish. I however did not go back to get a serving of it. I think they also always have mashed potatoes and gravy and macaroni and cheese. I think I always get green beans as well. They always have fruit. On this occasion they did not have strawberries which is odd. They have cottage cheese and macaroni salad. They have a salad bar with a selection of toppings which is really good. They have soft serve ice cream with a few toppings. They always have chocolate pudding and Jell-O. Everything is always fresh and tasty. It's basically really good southern food. Even though they don't have as big of a selection. The food is a lot better than Golden Corral as well as the service. They also have stuff you can order from the menu but I haven't...

As a kid, I had many pleasant dining experiences at various Shoney's Big Boy restaurants in Birmingham, but hadn't eaten at one for years since an unpleasant lunch at the one on Hwy 119 in Pelham right before it closed years ago. But having read some positive reviews here, my wife and I decided to make a pilgrimage down to Clanton to give this one a try.

We arrived at an odd time, around 2:30pm, last Monday Jan. 29th 2024. Even at that time they were doing a brisk business. We were seated immediately at a comfortable booth and our friendly and courteous server told us about the Fresh Food Bar (see photos) and also gave us menus (ditto), explaining that menu service had been restarted around three weeks prior. Just looking through the menu, I was pleasantly surprised to see my childhood favorites like the All-American Burger and Hot Fudge Cake! Despite those temptations, my wife and I both opted for the Fresh Food Bar.

All I can say is that we were both extremely impressed with the selection and taste of the delicious items on offer, as well as the fact that all items were constantly being refreshed, even though it was the middle of the afternoon. The cold food was nicely chilled, the hot food was piping hot, and the bar was clean and tidy. Our server kept our drinks topped off throughout the meal. Altogether our meal was a surprisingly pleasant experience, and this Shoney's is going to be a frequent stop for us on our trips between Birmingham...

Loved it went with my family for Father's Day. There was no special thing there for Father's Day just regular buffet. For family of 6 which we had 4 adults but my 15 year old sister was counted as an adult too and my little brother was just regular with his age.Our meal was like $85 for the 6 of us. You pay at the end of your meal not before. There was not a part I really hated about the restaurant. They did have wait times but it wasn't that long. They have a little gift shop corner in the front of the restaurant. The waitress was very sweet nice she was smooth with fill back up our drinks especially with the tea. The food was good. There was a little girl she looked like 6 or 7 and she was making her own plate and ended up wasting her whole plate. I feel like someone should just been there monitoring her for her family. I know she could be independent but someone still needed to be there or at least make her plate for her (All kids). But I love how there were 2 different race I saw just humans that helped her and told her it was ok. That makes me so happy that one guy told her don't pal everything in one plate she could come back. Then the other guy saw she was looking sad and he said you're okay it's okay. Then after away like I think 10 or 11AM they started bringing lunch out and put breakfast on one side...

Such a disappointing experience. The dinner buffet food was... bad. I started off trying the Mac and cheese and immediately didn't like it. But after trying everything else, I felt like Mac and cheese was the only thing remotely edible. That and the pink fluff. Not to mention the customers have the worst buffet etiquette of which I've ever borne witness. The "baked"? chicken tasted like it had been boiled for 3 days and bore little semblance to the texture or flavor chicken is expected to have... The pineapple ham had very obvious bubbles or pit holes from being glued together, indicating that it is actually highly processed, reconstituted ham flavored... meat??? And half of it was grey and appeared to be turkey?? To top it off, the giant sign said "buffet plus drink - $10.99" (no fine print to be seen) and no prices were listen elsewhere, including on the menu presented to us when we sat down. However, we were charged $11.99 for buffets, plus $2.39 (I believe) for each drink. After tax, we spent more than $15 per person to eat the saddest variety of low quality, cheap food I've ever seen at a buffet and meekly interact with the rudest bunch of people. We will not be returning.

Had a great experience here through and through. They are only doing buffet for now so no table orders. But breakfast, lunch, and dinner buffet. The waitresses were all very friendly, curtious, and aware of time (knew when to check on refills). Mrs. Stephanie was our waitress she was fantastic, on point with service (and very easy on the eyes too!). The other waitress, she looks like Dolly Parton or Reba McEntire, (one of the country singer ladies), also had very good situational awareness. Thank yall for a great first visit! Expect to be seeing me more often👍💯😁
