Village Gourmet - Cafe & Catering — Restaurant in Clarendon Hills

I understand that this was a fluke that was out of anyone's control. We went to go pick up the food we ordered, incredibly excited about the menu and the options available. A freight train was stalled on the tracks and we were unable to reach the restaurant, waited 30 minutes to try and get over there, trying multiple different routes to get to the place. When we realized this is not going to happen, I called the restaurant, explained the situation, and response I received was "what am I supposed to do? The food is already made" "Is there someone on this side of the tracks that can get your food?". So my options are to wait and see if we can get over there or basically just give my money and food to someone else. I completely understand that with any business, especially a small business, money and time are commodities that are significant. However, the blasé attitude was not needed, how about "we can do store credit" or some other option to allow us to enjoy the meal we paid for but will not be able to eat. I can’t overstate how much my family and I love this shop. We come for breakfast or lunch often on the weekends, grab sandwiches and their frozen meals to go, and recently had them cater a birthday party for us. The catering was spectacular. Everyone raved about the food and even the leftovers were still delicious! The quality of the food is noticeably superior to what you will get elsewhere, not to mention the care and attention that they put into preparing it. This little piece of heaven is around the corner from my job so I eat here about 3-4 times a week and it never disappoints. The food always tastes fresh and delicious. Not to mention the staff is absolutely wonderful and welcoming EVERY TIME without fail, and that is a huge part of making me a regular anywhere.
