So hereās how, after living in Gloucester County for more than 30 years, I finally discovered Twin Kiss this past week.
The Mr. Softee truck comes through our town. But for some reason, he visits EVERY street - literally EVERY street - in our neighborhood except for ours. He gets to the end of our street and almost ALWAYS turns around and leaves instead of coming down the street. I would say maybe we actually see the truck go by once every other week or so (usually really late, like around 9 pm). (And yes, we DO tip, but still he doesnāt come by.)
So anyway, the other day we were both wanting soft serve. My husband had just come back from a run to Loweās and told me the truck was at the end of the street, pointed in our direction. We waited .. and waited. We could hear the song in the distance ā obviously, he had turned the truck around and gone down another street for some reason. But still, we were hopeful heād come back on some sort of circuitous route.
Eventually, no more Mr. Softee song. He had obviously left the neighborhood, once again leaving us high and dry. So we did what any normal people would do: We got in our car and cruised around with the windows open, listening for that song. Nothing. I pulled up the Mr. Softee app ā it showed he was heading to Ferrell. Of course, we followed him ⦠all the way to Oldmanās Creek Campground. I still donāt know whether he went in there or not, but there was no Mr. Softee sound coming from behind the campgroundās high fence ⦠so, dejected, we left.
Then, my husband mentioned a custard place heād passed in Clayton. Iāve been to and through Clayton a bazillion times and Iāve NEVER seen a custard place ⦠Like any good spouse with roughly 30 years of marriage under my belt, I was skeptical. But to humor him, I said, āOK, letās go to Clayton.ā
And there it was ā Twin Kiss, right across from the Acme I know so well. (I love that Acme ā so cool and vintage compared to the āmodernā ugly ones. In fact, I think the reason Iāve never noticed Twin Kiss is because I always stare at the vintage building when I drive past.)
We had our custards (LARGE) which are, of course, FAR SUPERIOR to the Mr. Softee custard. Then two days later (yesterday), we went back for burgers, fries, and yes, more soft serve. (My husband had a shake, which he said was delicious.)
Not only is the food really good (I would marry those fries!) and the soft serve superb, but the music ā fantastic! (The employees were super friendly, too.) The whole place made me so happy! The only regret is that we didnāt find it earlier ā like when our kids were little. (Thereās a big, shaded playground!) I hope this place never changes! If you havenāt been, GO! GO!!! Youāll probably see us there, making up for 30 years...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThey changed their burger patty recipe used to come here since i was a kid and grandparents came here that's how long coming to twin kiss has been in my family they used to used frozen patties when mixed with all the condiments hollywood burgers they were called lettuce tom mayo and pickles with cheese they were the bomb they were so so good but i was here like two weeks ago and they raised their ice cream prices as well as their food prices we tried the burgers and they were nasty it was like they changed burger distributors the meat was actually like chewy it seemed like it was real ground beef but something was very very very off its a shame after all these years I dont think me and my family will be returning because of changing the burger recipe we used to come here for years when it was the woman owning and running it I don't think she is even the same owner I know why they changed the ground patties they are doing it to cut costs but no unless they bring the old meat distributor back the food i think my twin kiss days are over the food has gotten sloppy even the french fries are messed up and paying 10 11 dollars now for a banana split has also deteriorated me from returning sorry twin kiss those days are over what a real shame the direction this establishment is going through all good things...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI didn't know that Twin Kiss has been around since 1955. That is respectable and awesome. And frankly, I wish more knew bout it. This local ice cream shop is very VERY kid-friendly, community family-oriented. It is truely a welcoming place for everyone and a must-visit if you are new to Clayton as a resident or new to the surrounding area.
The ice cream is a tingly mouth-satisfying treat for your taste buds, especially in the warmer months! Plus, the reasonable prices make it even better. If you're looking for a delightful spot to hang out with the nieces and nephews running around. I highly recommend Twin Kiss!! Note * depending on the time of day the food line can get really really long. Still worth the wait!
