4/3/2023 - I wanted to give Mio's another try and again, I was not impressed. I tried the Bean salad with Falafel ($20). Exactly what you would think, beans on a mixed green salad. At least the salad was fresh. It came with one slice of lemon and could have used more as it lacked seasoning and I had to add much needed salt and pepper. Falafel is an indication and representation of the quality of food of a Middle eastern/Egyptian restaurant. The falafel this time tasted more fresh than the ones I had at the downtown location but still not very good. The flatbread with cheese, feta, and fermented sausage ($13) reminded me of a white pizza or Russian Khachapuri without the egg yolk. Very dry with no sauce or acid to counter the richness of the cheeses and bread, but an interesting appetizer dish. Wondering what sauce would complement this and maintain the intention of this dish. Perhaps pickled peppers, chutney, or some balsamic glaze? The mini side salad with balsamic vinaigrette that accompanied this appetizer was the best thing I ate during this trip. Good balance of freshness, flavor, and texture. A nice aspect of this location is that there is seating on the backside boardwalk over the...
Read moreMy wife and I tried Mio's because it had such good reviews. I'm pleased to say they are well-deserved. I met the owner/chef while I was there and I was very impressed. The food is wonderful. The flavors are unique and robust. Everything is seasoned perfectly. The Chef's special sauce (used on both the chicken and gyro meat plates) is like the most delicious cacciatore that you've ever had with a zing from some unique spices! This menu is small but my wife and i sampled a number of things as we shared our meals and apps. Everything we tried, including the falafel, the cheese pie, the kebap, and the chicken gyro platter were definitely worth writing home about! The good news is we live here so we'll be back. For those of you visiting, this place is next door to a famous and fancy restaurant- I'd say to skip them and go here. You will be impressed. Lastly, don't worry about the decor; it isn't fancy, but there's a lovely patio right on the water out back. The food speaks for itself!!! PS- use the valet parking for the other bar/restaurant on the southern corner, it's free for Mio's patrons too. The valet for the fancy place on the northern corner charges and isn't for the other businesses in the...
