My family and I have been frequenting this restaurant for 7 years. New management has destroyed what used to be a family oriented home style restaurant. The food is delicious and the only reason I gave any stars. As example- I was served a room temperature beer. My husband's beer was cold. I mentioned it the staff and instead of being offered a different beverage was given a 'cold' glass. I then discussed the beer with management, she immediately became defensive. This is not an appropriate response to a paying customer. In the past ,I have gladly waited over an hour for a table, today the restuarant was half full and my family waited an over an hour for our meal. During our wait my 1 year old niece crawled to door way of the back dining room. I am stringent about controlling small children in public areas as a courtesy for my fellow diners, and because I hate unruly kids, she was imediately pickedup. 15 minutes later the manager asked my husband TWICE, "Do you have the baby under control". 7 years ago another baby in my family happily crawled on the floor while the staff laughingly assured me it wasn't an issue. Both times the dining room was empty! I am shocked at the attitude change in this restaurant. There are other German restaurants in the area, perhaps new management should remember this. Sadly, my family...
Read moreOne word, UGH! Wow where to start? As I'm walking in, a stern looking woman standing guard asked me if she can help me. Startled, I responded that I would like to eat and drink something (what else would I go to a restaurant for?) Seems like friendliness and hospitality is unknown at this establishment. The atmosphere and look of this place is old, dark, dismal, run-down and smelly. Definitely not upbeat like its competitors that have nice lighting and German folk music playing. The building's facade outside actually looks pretty good and promises more than the inside has to offer. Was by myself and got seated at the bar, fine. Bartender is lukewarm at best. Good draft selection, $8 a beer, no happy hour pricing. Ok, talking about the food now. I'm born and raised in Germany and know a thing or two about German food. Long story short, worst Jaeger schnitzel I ever had! Unbreaded, lukewarm filet of pork (gross), flavourless gravy and mushy spätzle.Lousy food for $18! You can get better food than that at any train station in Germany! I also had better food in hospital cafeterias. Do yourself a favor and go to the Schnitzel Haus in Parma or to the Hofbrauhaus in...
Read moreI nearly cried I was so disappointed. Went to eat sauerbraten at a Der Braumeister in Cleveland (we're from Canton, so 2 hours round trip) to celebrate a special occasion. Sad ordeal. The sauerbraten tasted like plain old roast beef. The web site said it was marinated in burgundy wine, ginger, and juniper. I tasted nothing. Like bland Amish-country roast beef. I was looking forward to it for 5 days after researching German restaurants. The Reuben in potato pancakes was also bland, and the flaming cheeto-crusted schnitzel (that was for happy hour before dinner) was like a store-bought thin chicken patty. Not spicy and definitely not homemade. The sauerkraut balls were OK if you like fried mashed potato balls. My local dive bar has better ones. So I didn’t like anything, and I'm really not a picky eater. Horrible! At least they took the sauerbraten off the bill. I am German, and that was a huge affront to sauerbraten. So disappointing. I really did cry a little after we left. Such a waste of 3 hours of our time and the $67 we did spend. I tipped well. It wasn't the server's fault. So disappointing. My mom made great...
