Used to come here for years, but as another recent review said, things have changed somewhat. They appear to be under new management and it is showing in some spots. Notably, if you enjoy this place solely for the Orange Peel Chicken - sit down, because I have some bad news for you...it's pretty much gone. I saw the listing changed to just 'Orange Chicken' but didn't give it much thought. It is absolutely NOTHING like the original. No orange peel or chunks in the dish, no water chestnuts, no delicious sauce, and certainly no fresh chunks of chicken. This was your typical run of the mill 'copy and paste' Orange Chicken that you can get from pretty much any Chinese takeout. Might as well have been made directly from a frozen meal you buy at the supermarket, it was so bad. Lousy chunks of soggy breaded chicken sitting in a high-fructose corn syrup sauce that has 0% orange and 100% sadness. Why in the WORLD would you get rid of such an amazing recipe and replace it with this abomination is beyond me.
In addition, they no longer understand the concept of 'spicy'. I specifically noted for them to make my Orange Chicken extra spicy, but that does not appear to exist in their arsenal of spices anymore. The dish had zero spice. None. It might as well have been sweet and sour chicken, sans the sour.
Aside from that rant, to be completely fair, everything else was still pretty good. Their fried potstickers are still on point after all these years (although they have shrank in size), and their soups and fried rice are absolutely top notch. We also ordered the 'Pan Fried Noodle' which was probably the best version of it we've ever had.
But this place absolutely needs to bring back the original Orange Peel Chicken. It's a travesty that this even happened. I'm not sure if it was a cost cutting measure or what - I'd happily pay more to have it on the menu again. Please...
Read moreI placed an order for SHRIMP Lo Mein. I have ordered from this restaurant numerous times. So when the order came I didn't look at right a way. I signed the receipt first and gave a tip. While the driver was still here I opened the box and saw that I had been given the LoMein chicken. Called the restaurant and was told to hold on but no one came back to the phone. I was headed to the airport so I took pictures and decided to wait the 7 days until I came back to call again. First I was told I could receive a credit on the order I was about to place. Then someone came to the phone and said I needed to call that day which I had attempted to do. I and the many friends that had ordered from them had never had a problem with this restaurant except 1 person. That person had the same thing happened to them, however, when they called 4 days later the issue was resolved. This is not about the the money, it's the principle. I couldn't eat it so I had to give it to someone else and didn't eat anything until 3 hours later when I reached my destination CITY. I'm also very disappointed that first I was told it would be resolved and then someone else said no. Now I have to go through the bank to resolve the issue. Lesson is, chech everything when delivered but keep in mind the driver can't take it back and they might not answer the phone so plan on not eating and...
Read moreI've ordered carryout multiple times over the last year. Their online ordering system is easy aside from not listing what ingredients are in each dish. They also don't allow online payment. It's easier to call or walk-in.
I've had the Chen's Special (I love veggies) with peanuts added, Sichuan Green Beans (slightly charred and deliciously spicy...not too hot), Pepper Steak and Onions (so tender and in a well flavored black bean sauce), egg fried rice with green onions added, Jasmine and Oolong teas, veggie egg rolls , shrimp chips and almond cookies. I've never had a bad meal here. Their lunch specials are very affordable. Their fried foods aren't greasy. I appreciate that they give you lots of veggies, not just one floret of broccoli. Their prices run a bit higher, but their quality is exponentially better than most other Chinese American restaurants. Nice customer service. They definitely know their regulars.
Next time, I'll dine in. I their decor reminds me of the old Chinese restaurant that was in Cedar Center in the 90s. Trust me, you won't be...
