My first visit, and it was even better than I imagined! If you've never visited, here's a guide: The main buffet is right in front of the main entrance. Go around the right end of it, then turn left, pick up a tray, silverware and a drink, then down to the register. Bring cash to avoid a 4% card surcharge. If paying by card, they will refund you in cash the amount you enter on the Tip line, to leave for the person who ends up servicing your table. I regret I was a bit stingy - it's a buffet, right? - but Rayne really worked her butt off, constantly checking to make sure I had everything I needed, refilling drinks, taking away dirty plates... excellent service! From the register, turn 180 degrees to find clean plates, and go around the right end to get salad bar, or left for hot foods. They had ham, fried fish, excellent fried chicken, individual meatloaves, and another entree or two, and a fully stocked salad bar. Three dessert tables: one with cakes and pies, one with sugar free treats, and one with fruit cobblers and bread pudding. The main buffet and salad bar were kept filled and fresh. The dessert bar could have used a little work but was acceptable. They're a bit short staffed - I only saw two table servers - but you wouldn't know it. I went on a Saturday, a bit before 4 PM, a good time to visit... Everything was well stocked and no waiting. Can't wait to return, better prepared, so I can leave a much more generous tip and try to decode that fried chicken recipe... It was super crispy, not greasy, light, never had chicken like that anywhere before, different in an excellent way. $17 plus tax for adults, worth every penny and then some, and the trip from Lee's Summit. I haven't found anything comparable in...
Read moreWonderful and friendly staff. Waitress was excellent! Never had an empty glass, and plates never stacked up, despite being a busy night.
The food quality was truly great. Though some of the fresh salad components could have looked a little better. The grape tomatoes were definitely on their last day. But the chicken wings came in 4 sauces and were meaty! The fried chicken was perfectly crisp without being too breaded or hard and was not greasy. Even the breasts were still moist. The catfish was juicy and crisp. The Brussel sprouts with wonderfully cooked. The mac and cheese was so creamy and delicious. It paired very well with the ham. And the rolls were so soft and buttery.
Pricing is better than most buffets now days, and definitely worth the food quality. There is a military discount that we didn't get told about until we were almost done eating, but we also didn't think to ask.
We will definitely be back! In fact the 8 year old has requested we have her birthday dinner there. (And she is not an easy one to win over when it comes to food)
I would suggest maybe a swinging door on the buffet center entrance. As someone that had never been there, I wasn't aware the center was for staff only. (It makes sense, but a visible "not for guests" door would be helpful) I was not the only one that made that mistake the night...
Read moreThe food is always very good as is the waiter staff. But I was really dissapointed, they don't honor my medicial card from my surgeon. Every time I've ate there I come with a large group of full on paying customers. I had surgery on my stomach. I can only hold two table spoons of food in any meal I eat. Or I get very sick, one week ago we rented the party room and they honored my card, I ate two bites of water melon and that's it, I can't even drink when I eat. So this week I was told we don't honor those medical cards anymore.
Well my family usually eats here weekly, so I guess as long as I'm part of where we eat, I'm not going to let them eat there anymore, I'm supposed to be charged for a kids meal, and the fact is most toddlers eat more than I can right now..NO they don't have to honor my medical card my surgeon gave me to present to restaurants, but our large group dosent have to eat there again either.
Again the food and wait staff are incredible, it's the best fried chicken in town, my parents love thier chicken.
But we won't be back, it's unfair for me to pay for a full meal when a toddler eats...
