Don Felipe Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Clio

We've been to Don Felipe a plethora of times, as such this review has been progressive in determining my rating.

Food was great when we first started dining here, but has continued to go downhill. Portions have gotten smaller, quality has diminished at an equally bad rate.

Service (with the exception of a couple of times) is terrible.

This evening we dined here with our son. We ordered the kids taco meal for him, clarified it with the waiter twice that it was the kids meal. Our food arrives and it's not the kids meal, just a taco. The waiter said he'll bring the rice and beans to make it the meal, then proceeded to charge us for an adult taco and an additional side of rice and beans. Normally I would brush it off as a mistake, but it happens with this same waiter like clockwork, three times now. It's an easy way for restaurants to boost bottom line sales while pawning it off as a mistake.

In addition to the kids meal scam, this evening I had ordered, for myself, the Fajita Nachos and asked to ADD shrimp, as the menu states you can do for a surcharge. "Add" means it would be in addition to what was already on the dish description which would be chicken and steak. I specifically clarified to the waiter to add it, he said "so shrimp nachos" I replied with clarification that i wanted to ADD shrimp to the meal. In about 3 minutes I had a plate of about 10 chips, a pinch of vegetables and 5 shrimp, flooded in queso sauce. It was disgusting, and went unaddressed by waitstaff.

After having this be a dining staple for nights out for us, we won't be back. I think they've tried to grow too fast to be able to maintain quality food...

Have visited many times over past several years, the food is awesome and staff appear friendly. Despite being without chardonnay for over a year and despite small order corrections we still returned because the food, when correct, is excellent. Today I ordered the shrimp delight as usual, and asked for beans instead of pico de gallo, which has never been a problem. I got a plate of the beans, and then a plate of shrimp. When I asked for the lettuce and rice the waiter said it wasn't included in the meal so I asked for the menu again, thinking I had misread something even though I've ordered this in the past. The waiter brought another server with the menu, and I politely pointed to their menu description that says it's included....they repeated the words lettuce and rice, that should be included. The waiter then brought me a plate of cold lettuce, again no rice so I gave up. They appear nice, but this happens almost regularly so I'm wondering if this is purposeful. Then when we got our bill they charged regular price instead of the lunch price; again didnt try to show them the correction on their own menu. Unfortunately will not be returning, will instead be frequenting the new Cancun restaurant just a few miles away...

The wait staff at this location were very pleasant and attentive to us. Our food arrived quite quickly and tasted great. Unfortunately, about an hour after our meal my boyfriend and I began to feel sick. Neither of us could keep our meal down and immediately called the restaurant to let them know about our trouble. The manager we spoke to requested a hospital bill to prove that we got sick. I found this to be very distasteful and not at all sympathetic to our situation. My boyfriend and I both agreed that our meal tasted quite good so we could rule out stale food being the culprit of our illness. We believe the lack of clean hands in preparation of the meal lead to both of us being sick. The next day, I went back to the restaurant to try and sort out the situation with the manager who was again unsympathetic to our situation and refused to refund our meal. He kept repeating the need for a hospital bill to prove that we got sick as a result of eating there. Unfortunately, because of the lack of customer service once we received after the fact, we cannot recommend this restaurant...
