Every year my dad takes me out to dinner for my birthday and this year I chose John & Nick's. Overall was disappointed. We got there at 4:30 so it was very quiet and few tables. Since we were early I got to see them restocking the vaunted salad bar. I used to work in a restaurant so I know when I see pre-made salad containers and spotted immediately most of the items on the salad bar were being filled with pre-bought salads spooned out of their shipping containers. Definately was not impressed. We had a group of 8 and we all ordered different things. I ordered the prime rib and bacon wrapped scallops with garlic mashed potatoes. The prime rib had clearly been cooked for lunch, sliced off, and warmed up in a skillet. You could tell by looking at the down side they put on the plate. Also the prime rib had that taste it gets after sitting for a couple hours. The scallops were cooked well but it was clear the bacon was wrapped on them raw and cooked with the scallops as it was soft and woefully undercooked. The garlic mashed potatoes also failed to impress. Underseaseoned, bland, and lumpy. Btw the chocolate cake dessert I got for my birthday was a chocolate muffin with whip cream and chocolate sauce drizzled on it. The muffin was over baked and nothing my 12 yr old couldn't have made.
On the positive side the server was very friendly and good with my kids. The environment was clean and inviting.
Dont get me wrong....the food was ok. If I would have gone to a prime rib buffet and paid $20 to $25 I probably would have been satisfied. But at $35 to $40 a person not counting any alcoholic beverages I was severely underwhelmed. The rest of the diners with me felt the same way. Definately will be picking some place...
Read moreMy wife told me how good this place was. Her steak had more fat on it which I'll put in the pictures and show you. And it was supposed to be blackened and it was nasty very little taste. I ordered prime rib same thing tons of fat and no taste at all. I had to order fries because I'm allergic to butter. So Mike our waiter said that there was butter in the bread. And he brought butter so I can't eat that because I end up throwing up all over everybody. Mike asked what else if there's anything else we needed my wife said the check. We waited we waited we waited. So we got up and ready to walk out to the front where everybody seated. Nobody not the manager the hostess just looked at us like we had leprosy. Here Comes Mike with her check. And he said it was sitting right there standing up. There's one thing in life I can't stand as a liar. My wife says no we ask for the check and you never brought it back. You feel like you're going to starting in there. Tables are so close guy stood there for at least 5 minutes why though guy was standing there taking an order and he couldn't even sit down to sell it when everybody else was sitting down. They're salad bar he had to wait 20 plus people in line to get salad. I will never go back there I would never recommend anybody to go there. And the pictures will show you why. My potatoes look like they are cooked in a week old grease. They were nasty hard, and if you look at where my prime rib was and all the fat is what I cut off of it I probably had 2 oz of meat and I couldn't eat it cuz it was so nasty. So like they say when everybody tells you it's really good and you're really disappointed cuz my wife was very sad. She wanted to be a special night and it was for this...
Read moreWe finally had a date night, so we decided to try John & Nick's for their "amazing" prime rib. We were both looking forward to what we'd heard was great food. We came to the restaurant around 6:30 on a Saturday evening, so we had to wait for about twenty minutes... that part didn't bother us at all. I personally thought we'd be waiting longer. When we were seated, we had to wait quite a while for a waitress to bring our drinks, then after we got them, she took them to refill before we had taken three drinks. Other than that, the waitress was very polite.
We both ordered the prime rib (medium); his with garlic mashed potatoes, and mine with a baked potato. When ordering, I asked for cheese and sour cream for my potato, so the waitress asked if I just wanted it "loaded," which meant it also came with bacon bits. Sure! When our food came (in a fairly timely manner), I dug into my potato. There was a blanket of cheese melted on top, and as I lifted it, I realized there was no butter and no sour cream. Plus, I wasn't given any butter, even on the side. Who eats a baked potato without butter?!?! And I asked for sour cream. Uhhg! So to summarize, my baked potato was dry and very lacking.
The prime rib... that "amazing" prime rib... It's a joke. It was tough and chewy. Prime rib should just melt... not be chewy. And their Au Jus sauce was WAY too salty. Needless to say, my dogs ate well that night.
All in all... it was a really bad experience, and we will not...
