Deli Delicious #64 - Shields and Fowler — Restaurant in Clovis

I’ve been a loyal customer at Deli Delicious because of their great customer service and consistently clean store. However, I’ve noticed an ongoing issue with food handling that concerns me. Employees frequently use the same gloves while handling different ingredients, touching surfaces like the fridge, and then going back to making sandwiches.

Most recently, I placed an order ahead of time to avoid the lunch rush. When I got to work, I realized my turkey bacon sandwich was missing the bacon. I went back, and while the employee at the counter was very helpful and quickly fixed the issue, I noticed she used the same gloves she had been using for other tasks, leaving oil residue on the sandwich box and then proceeding to handle vegetables for other orders without changing gloves.

I called the manager to share my concerns professionally and kindly. While she acknowledged the issue and said she’d talk to the team, I felt the response was dismissive. As someone with gut issues, proper food handling is really important to me.

I truly appreciate the great customer service and cleanliness of the store, but I hope they take glove-changing and cross-contamination concerns more seriously...

Totally recommend this Deli Delicious! Food was wonderful, food was prepped fast, and customer service was on point!! I was able to get there before the lunch rush and received a really warm welcome upon entering. Ordering was really easy and they were very knowledgeable with menu and size recommendations. There was ample seating if you were to come in with family or your coworkers. The soda machine had a lot of options, even including adding strawberry, vanilla, cherry, or lemon flavor to your drinks to customize to perfection! I ordered a medium Salami-Avocado-Sprout sandwich on sourdough with a side of beer battered fries. Fries were hot off the grill and very tasty! Sourdough and sandwich toppings were all fresh: lettuce was crisp, tomatoes were firm (not squishy like some restaurants), meat was robust with flavor. If you like a little spice, add jalapenos! Did I say portion sizes are generous?? Fries alone were almost enough to fill me up. Add in half of my sandwich, which made for a great tasting lunch (plus I have half left for lunch tomorrow!). Giving this location a 2 star for what is most likely bad management. Dining area was closed at 7:05pm (55min early.. really?), they only had 1 bread option available, and no fries. The first reason I’m certain is due to staffing and unwillingness to schedule enough closers. The 2nd and 3rd reasons could be due to a missed delivery or unexpected demand, either way it just ruins the experience and makes me not want to visit this location even though I live right behind the location.
