Best pizza and wings in town!

My wife has a real problem with pizza.

If there were a Pizzaholics Anonymous I would probably stage an intervention and try to convince her to seek professional help. This condition however has driven her to become a true pizza connoisseur. She's not like the town wino that will drink whatever pisswater booze someone offers - oh no.....her condition is far more complicated.

She isn't just addicted to pizza..... she is addicted to finding (and eating) the best pizza possible. Every time we move (and thanks to the US Army we have moved A LOT over the past 25 years) she has to try every pizza joint within a 25 mile range of our house. 7 out of 10 fail to meet her expectations. She is extremely critical of the crust in particular - after all the dough is the foundation of any pizza. And of the 30% that meet her minimum standards, most of those eventually fail to maintain said standards. Sooner or later a pizza will arrive that is undercooked, or burnt, or they screwed up the dough......something. it's inevitable.

Well......the Pies & Grinders on the corner of Powers and Research has been going strong for several months now. When my wife says the pizza is not just good but excellent, believe me when I say you are hearing the opinion of a true expert. And the cherry on top is that the wings are also amazing! And their jalapeño poppers are the bomb!!

Anyway.... if you are looking for a great place to get pizza and wings, Colorado Springs Pies & Grinders at 5490 Powers Center Point is a true diamond in the rough. It hilarious listening to a couple guys from New York yell at each other while they are cooking and taking orders. It might not be the fanciest place in town, and the staff do get a little spicy with each other, but the food is outstanding! And they have live music and a great beer selection.

So my struggle to find my beautiful bride an effective treatment program continues. There may be help for her out there somewhere, but I still havent found it. In the meantime, I do what I can to find the silver lining by sharing her opinion with others that may also suffer from this affliction. I may never find a cure, but at least I know every Friday night Pizza Night is gonna...

Really fantastic place with an amazing menu. I placed an order for pickup which was smooth and easy, but the decor of the restaurant is really a nice blend of classic with trendy and modern so I'd recommend it as a great sit-down or pickup place. The staff was easy-going and kind and they checked our entire order in front of us before we left which I really appreciated because a lot of other places don't check and then you are all the way home before you find out something in your order is missing. No worries like that with Pies and Grinders because they verify everything right before they give it to you. This was our first time eating at here so we got several small pizzas to share among the family so we could sample several different flavors (which I would recommend to anyone else so you can find out what you like the best). Their classics (like cheese and pepperoni with extra cheese) were spot-on flavors and some of the unique pies gave a really fun counterpoint. The taco pizza was really good, and the BBQ chicken has just a tiny bit of spicy kick that we really enjoyed. The only grinder we tried was the meatball parm (another classic) and speaking as someone who has long been on the lookout for a properly done meatball parm in Colorado Springs, I can finally say I've found a winner.
