We visited Los Volcanes as a large party of 13 with a reservation, and while the experience had a few bumps, overall it was a memorable visit that I would recommend.
The main drawback of our visit was the wait. It took about 10 minutes before we were able to place drink orders, nearly 30 minutes before we could order appetizers, and over an hour before we finally placed our entrées. Drinks and appetizers also arrived much later than expected, which made us feel overlooked at times. It seemed the restaurant may have been short-staffed, though there weren’t other large parties present at the time.
That said, the staff’s attitude made a huge difference. When I raised concerns about the delays, the servers were understanding, professional, and genuinely friendly. Their demeanor helped ease the frustration, and I appreciated that the staff went out of their way at the end to make things right without me even asking. The atmosphere itself was casual and welcoming, though not particularly standout—good for groups, families, or anyone looking for hearty Mexican food.
The food is where Los Volcanes shines. The portions were absolutely epic, and every plate that came out looked incredible. The flavors lived up to the presentation—authentic, hearty, and delicious. It’s the kind of food where, every time a dish passed by the table, we all found ourselves asking, “What is that?!” Whether you stick to classics you’d expect at a Mexican restaurant or try something new, you’re in for a treat.
While the pacing of service left something to be desired, the combination of generous portions, flavorful food, and friendly staff more than made up for it. We left full, satisfied, and with the impression that this is a place worth coming back to.
Don’t let the mention of long wait times dissuade you—Los Volcanes is a great spot with excellent food, and when the service is in stride, it’s easily a...
Read moreIf you haven't been to Los Volcanes Authentic Mexican Restaurant on North Carefree, you don't know what you're missing! We went last night and I swear I may never eat Mexican food anywhere else now! We've live here 10 years and have had some really good (and some not so good) Mexican food, but nothing like this. I wish I would've taken pictures, but it was late and I was starving. I had the Chicken fajitas and they were ahhhmazing and they didn't skimp on the amount. Fresh white meat chicken cut in good size strips, not skinny little strips with the charbroil lines that let you know it's pre-made. Multi color peppers and onions and the skillet came out sizzling hotter than I've ever received anywhere else. Sour cream, homemade guacamole, shredded lettuce, homemade Pico, homemade pinto beans and homemade rice all on the side. Husband had beef flautas with the homemade rice and beans...I've never seen him enjoy them so much from anywhere else. He said it was the best he's ever had too! We shared a homemade tamale and omg it was amazing too...packed full of meat with incredible red sauce and just enough cheese on top. Other tamales will never compare now. Oh and hubby also had a birria taco and it was really big and he loved it as well. Great chips and salsa on the table to start. We also had some really tasty cocktails with dinner. The place is nice and clean, the employees are phenomenally nice and very welcoming and prices are very reasonable. YOU MUST GO TRY IT! You won't be disappointed and if you say you are, you're fibbing. I can't wait to go back! 5+...
Read moreWe had lunch here today and everyone had something different to try as many different items as possible. What a pleasant surprise, first service was quick, efficient and friendly. Brian answered all our questions about the menu and we had several. Chips and salsa were quickly brought to the table. Chips were warm and the salsa had a nice tang to it. All the orders were brought to the table by the time we finished the first basket of chips and salsa. Plates were big so come hungry. I had the pork tamale, chicken taco, and beef enchilada with rice and beans, and brought half my plate home. Very god combo and best homemade tamale, tanks Silvario, owner's dad, the chef. My wife had a chile rellano, Guacamole tostada. Our friends had shrimp diablo, chile rellano, and enchiladas, and thumbs up on all. To round out the meal my wife had flan and said it was the best in town and our friends had fried ice cream, very good.
Very good menu so we will be back soon than later and have so many items on the radar for the next visit. Cerviche, oysters, Arroz con Pollo, so many choices I see many many visits in the near future. We have needed a good Mexican restaurant in the neighborhood for a long time and Los Volcanes in a family restraurant you too will get hooked on after one visit, you will not be disappointed.
A few more weeks and you will be able to enjoy you favorite beer on tap or beverage as soon as they get their license, so be patient, but the food will...
