""""""""""So last week we decided to indulge in some good food that was native to us, our hearts and taste buds. And since we were not going anywhere far, we decided to stop for lunch at our trustee desi place, Gulnaz. That being said, I've actually never had the chance to try their biryani, and decided to do so this time. We ordered beef biryani, chicken tikka masala(because my boyfriend apparently has a hard time stomaching too much spice), aloo paratha, garlic naan and a drink called rooh-afza. Here are my thoughts: The biryani was hands down amazing. Having had the privilege of actually trying many different kind of biryani, this really did a number for its type. The portion was great, good for two people (unless you are a glutton. Just kidding) and we had a hard time finishing it because it was a lot!! The spices for the biryani was perfect; not over powering, not bland, but just perfect.
The chicken tikka masala is not the most favorite of mine, but for the sake of an honest review I would say that aside from the great taste, they actually gave you a lot of chicken pieces (many places do not).
Now for my other favorite, the aloo paratha. This is literally the definition of comfort food. It's something I make myself and enjoy immensely and I was so happy that Gulnaz serves really good aloo parathas. It's basically potato garnished with spices stuffed in flat bread and then fried. I don't think anything gets better then that! I have been to some places that have the worst aloo parathas, but once again Gulnaz made a number on that! However I just felt that it was a little expensive.
Lastly the drink. The drink was ordered in the spirit of experimenting something new. I however had the drink years ago and I still remember the horrible taste to this day. But my boyfriend was really convinced that he wanted to try, so I thought " we all learn from experience...." and as it turns out, he ended up not liking the drink. It's basically a drink made of syrup and rose water both of which are, in all honesty, a horrible combination for me. The drink is blended and served in two ways: with water or milk. My boyfriend tried the water blend. It has a half slushy texture. If you guys love rosewater as an ingredient in your drink than you might like this. I haven't tried the milk blend, so I can only assume it has a thicker texture?
Next time we definitely have to stick with the usual Lacci drink. Can't go wrong with that.
Overall, the food was great! However some of the things that I personally did not like was the wait time. I mean, for just that much food it almost took 30-40 mins. And we did not even go during a busy time. It got busy 20 mins after we came and ordered. Other than that the server was really sweet and friendly and we had a delicious lunch!"""""""""""""""

Read moreThis is a long overdue review of our favorite Halal Pakistani restaurant in the IE! No other Pakistani/Indian restaurant compares to the flavors of the dishes here. If you’re looking for the best Pakistani food near you, stop scrolling and come visit this hidden gem! With the quality of the dishes, it’s no surprise that the locals keep coming back for more. As a small and humble family business, you can truly taste the passion they have for creating fresh and delicious dishes packed with immensely rich flavors.
⏳Wait times can be a bit longer during lunch hours since they have minimal staff. But honestly, it’s worth the wait for fresh quality food. The gentleman, Fizaan, is the owner’s son and basically helps run the place for his fam and proudly helps cook some of the food during peak hours. He was welcoming, friendly, and attentive.
🍽️ We have visited on several occasions & have gotten take out many times. Dining in while the food is hot and fresh is the best. The photos here show a Combo Plate option and a Sunday Lunch a-la-carte portion size. A more economical option is visiting during their lunch time from Tues to Friday from 11am-3pm for the combo plate which includes your choice of protein, salad, rice and a side of naan.
The A-La-Carte options are great to share for two. All items pictured are our go-to favorites! Loved the Veggie Samosa appetizer! The subtle smoky taste of the Baingan Bharta, the rich flavors of the Chicken Karahi & Paneer Tikka Masala are absolutely delicious. I like the fact that these are not as oily or greasy as the other Desi restaurants we have tried. The a-la-carte dishes come alone, so if you want a side of rice, there are a couple rice options to choose from. Their garlic naan was soft, warm, and addicting with each dip into their flavorful sauces.
🥭 Their Mango Lassi was sweet and refreshing! I liked the perfect balance of all the ingredients. Other versions I have tried at other restaurants were either too sour or too bland, which made me hesitant to try it - but I am glad I decided to try their version! If you’re not a fan of Mango Lassi but want a mango drink, they also offer Mango juice, which is just as yummy and refreshing. Many other authentic drink options as well.
I always highly recommend this place to all my friends & will keep coming back when I’m...
Read moreI’ve lived in the IE most of my life and I’m angry at myself for not knowing about this jewel of a restaurant. My friend and I had some time to kill while getting new tires put on so we decided to walk to Gul Naz. Best decision I’Ve made all year.
Before I talk about the food I’d like to just say the staff is incredibly knowledgeable, super friendly and accommodating. I told our server it was my first time at the restaurant and trying Pakistani food. I asked him what he recommended since I like spicy food but my body can only tolerate a small amount. The restaurant is spotless and the bathroom is cleaner than most people’s bathroom at home. The toilet even has a bidet.
Last Saturday when I discovered Gul Naz I had the Malai Chicken Tikka with rice, nann and a side of green chutney and a hot chai to drink. The chicken was moist and seasoned well. The green chutney gave a nice minty spice flavor. The rice was steamed perfectly and the nann freshly baked. The hot chai tea was rich, flavorful and perfectly balanced.
Today I had the Chicken Tikka Masala with Garlic Nann and rice. It was my first time eating tikka masala. OH. MY. GOSH. You could tell the cook has been doing this for decades. A perfect blend of spices, a tiny bit of heat and a wealth of chicken. I’ve heard some places skimp on the chicken. This is not one of them. The Garlic Nann only added to the euphoric state my mouth was already in. I can die happy now.
I just had my dinner birthday party at a bbq place in Redlands 2 weeks ago with a party of 35 people. I so wish I had found out about Gul Naz earlier. I totally would’ve had it there instead. I’ll be going to Gul Naz weekly and looking forward to it each time.
The prices for the portions they give you are a steal. You can go to any fast food place and pay the same amount or even more per person and it won’t be half as good as the food at Gul Naz. Every order is made fresh. I’m so mad that I’ve lived in the IE for so long and just found out about this place. GO EAT HERE NOW and enjoy a lovely meal in the cleanest restaurant I’ve...
