The Hunter-Gatherer was AWESOME! Columbia has quite a few great breweries, but Hunter-Gatherer is right up there with all of them! First and foremost, the ambiance is so cool! It's in an old airport hangar, so it's plenty spacious, and they lean into the history of the hanger with some really cool contemporary artwork of airplanes, pilots, and helicopters. One of my friends is a pilot, and he loved looking at all of the different art pieces they had. I also loved the set-up, with the empty barrels and brewing equipment in plain view. In terms of their brews, they were immaculate as well. I tried a few different ones, all of which were great, but settled on the Grapefruit IPA, which is one of my favorite IPAs that I've ever tasted. Some of their other great ones were the Galaxy IPA, the Hazy IPA, and the English Pale Ale. With regard to their food, the pizza was absolutely DELICIOUS. It was baked to perfection, tasted amazing, and was the exact amount of crispy without tasting burnt. My guests said that they enjoyed their salads as well. Finally, the entire staff was super sweet, and made me feel welcomed the whole time. They chatted with me, provided me samples, and generally made me want to come back time and time again. Overall, I can't say enough good things about the Hunter-Gatherer, and it's now one of my favorite spots in Columbia!

"Enjoy" your burnt pizza! ... Really?!? What a disappointment this place turned out to be. The missed opportunity and lost potential for this place is incredible! I have previously frequented the other location on multiple occasions and, well, I guess that's where my expectations were derived from. That, or just a nice environment with a brewery / college atmosphere. This former airplane hangar was anything but. It was, well, a pizza and beer joint in an airplane hangar. Not sure where all the great reviews come from?!? if it's sunny, you're blinded by the sun through the huge windows. The menu is basically limited to appetizers, pizza, salads, and beer or soda. Oh, and did I mention it was loud? Acoustics are horrible, even with only about 15 people. Customer service wasn't a priority and was slow. I could go on but I think you get "my picture," obviously others enjoy this atmosphere, oh, and worst, burnt pizza in Cola!

Hunter-Gatherer at the Curtiss-Wright Hangar is arguably the most unique brewery experience in South Carolina. The setting is incredible—a massive, historic aircraft hangar with high ceilings, original beams, and a rustic, cavernous feel. They brew all their beer on-site, and their focus on traditional English and German styles is a refreshing change. The Kellerbier is a standout—unfiltered, crisp, and incredibly drinkable. The atmosphere is laid-back and family-friendly, with plenty of space to spread out. They often have live music or trivia nights, which adds to the community feel. The food is simple and good, with pizzas and pretzels that pair perfectly with the beer. The staff is always friendly and knowledgeable about the brewing process. Sitting outside on their patio on a cool evening, looking at the old hangar, is a truly special Columbia experience. It’s a must-visit for history buffs and beer lovers alike.

I wanted to like this place better, but it was marred by some of the worst service I've had in a long time. Cool location in an old airplane hanger. Lots of light & room inside & outdoor area, including a nice rooftop patio. Terrific outdoor areas on nice days for watching the planes take off & land.

We had two appetizers. The flatbread was great. Baked chicken wings were good, but could have gone just a minute longer in the oven to crisp up the skin a bit.

Here's what will keep us from going back. Young man waited our table. Including ours, there were 3 tables inside with people at them. He came over quickly & we ordered a beer & a taste of another. 10 minutes passed & he was nowhere to be found. My wife went to the bar to retrieve our order. The kitchen staff brought the first appetizer. The waiter never brought plates, utensils or napkins. I had to find him to get them. The flatbread plate did not come with the hummus we ordered. 10 minutes later, the chicken wings came, also delivered by the kitchen. The waiter never returned to our table after taking the original order for beer & never returning.

The brewery is on the NE side of Columbia & we're not in that area often, but we assuredly won't try this place again. Oh yeah, we liked the beer! This staff member had something on his mind that did not include...

Giving HG 5 stars for getting open and having another spot to grab a beer in Cola! Sadly their opening weekend deserve only 3. The highly anticipated spot started with dirty glasses ,flat beer, nowhere to sit outside, if you want to have fun enjoying your beer sit at the bar on the side with booths (only music playing on that side), the back bar seemed like an after thought or for events but silent no vibe and service was terrible, slow with no sense of urgency or thought to have conversation to talk about the space and what’s to come still! The center divided the room from party town to the silent kids zone. Last concern is having to leave my cc at one location but if I move to the other side I can’t add a beer to my tab bc I started it over there?? Be flexible and make it easy for your guests to order from which ever side they are at AND be able to close their tab and not walk back over to the original spot. Hopes are for better days and kinks to be fixed as time goes on. We will for...
