Finally found this place open and/or still had rabbit on the menu. I'm not from here. Over the years, we've tried multiple times to try this place when passing though only for them to be closed early or out of rabbit. Who closes shop at 2pm when you got droves of people still trying to buy? Must be nice to not need money and do this for a hobby. The rabbit was really good. For anyone thinking it's suppose to be the same consistency as fried chicken has apparently never had fried rabbit before. So do your research. That being said, the sides were nothing to write home about. Really disappointed. The portions were embarrassingly small. Maybe, a table spoon or two of cheap, white rice, and bland gravy. The lima beans had no seasoning to them and like the rice, maybe a small spoonful was given to you. That type of rice and gravy is dirt cheap. Especially that cheap, bland white rice that elementary schools and prisons serve. That should be piled high in your to go box. Man, you guys can get some Louisiana made Jasmine rice (it actually has flavor) with some seasoned gravy and make this a hundred times better. For the lima beans, Tony's seasoning is cheap. Come on now. Might do it again one day when we pass through but unless something changes, those sides can go in the trash. Offer a fried rabbit plate only minus the sides. Also, I didn't find out until I got home that we were suppose to get drinks with all that.
PS: there's some sort of pink sauce included with your meal that's not explained to you what it is. It's ok, but like the sides, it's bland and seasonless. Not sure what it is. Maybe ketchup and mayo mixed together? I think someone may have been trying to do a Raisin Canes type of sauce and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOkay, the Southern Fried rabbit is freaking awesome! With the exception that it seems to be run by people who like LSU. Let's Skip by that giant flaw and just talk about the food and the service. Southern Fried rabbit has a pretty good hamburger. That is what I normally get when I go there, simply because it is pretty good. I travel all over the State, and Southern Fried rabbit is probably my second or third favorite hamburger in the state! It is definitely worth the trip off of Highway 98 to have one of the burgers! But never forget that their name is fried rabbit and the fried rabbit is supposed to be amazing... I have never gotten it because I usually travel while I eat. The service is as good as one would expect from a single owner restaurant. You definitely get better food for less money than at any of the fast food chains! Be careful asking for a large fry. You might need someone to help you carry them because there are so many! I'm a big boy and I didn't eat all of them, that is how many you get when you ask...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWOW!!! My first time coming here was a great one. I'm from Louisiana and I'm just visiting in Mississippi for the time being, and my mom was smart enough to say we should stop at this small place by the road. At first I was hesitant, but my mom made a point that places like these have the best food, and she was right!!!
I had these Philly Meat Fries and OH MY GOODNESS.They were delicious! I was even able to heat them up in the microwave hours later and they STILL tasted amazing! The woman at the front who served us was also just a blessing. My mom and my uncle said their burgers were amazing as well!
I will definitely come here again if I ever get the chance. It takes a little while to get here from New Orleans but I do hope I see this place...
