Overall: ok but would not order /eat there again, not worth $50...if you like salt this is the place for you!
We ordered dinner to be picked up while we were staying in a nearby hotel during our trip down south. When called to make the order the lady whom answered the phone was nice and polite, she however informed me that they did not have cornbread (it was being made) she recommended hush puppies or Texas toast or she could try to find me a soft biscuit if I wanted..I did appreciate her honesty in saying that most of their bread options were not the best quality at this time so I opted for the hush puppies (they ended up being good options), they did not chicken breast dinner like I seen on Google menu pictures, I asked if they had an online menu I might be able.to look at and call back with our order and she mentioned that she didn't know and if they did it probably wasn't updated. So I continued to try to order based off the online pictures and ordered a country ham dinner with red eye gravy, chicken tender meal, kids ham and cheese with fries meal and kids hotcake with eggs, fried green tomatoes. When we pick up our meal my husband had to call for service when he was standing waiting on the food because there were no employees up front. We got back to hotel room the red eye gravy, fresh green beans side, eggs, fries and hush puppies were all missing from our order. If you have stayed somewhere on road trip with two toddlers who has been on the road for already 8+ hours you know the last thing you wanna do is get back in the vehicle to go back and get missing food but we did...we called to let them know that all the items were missing and the first lady to answer the phone was unable to handle the situation, she stated that I had to speak with the same lady whom took my order in the first place, so I waited. I then spoke with her and she apologized about the missing items and stated they would get them put together. We went back to get the items and I'm not sure it was worth while. The ham was fairly small portions but over all okay, the gravy was fairly salty, the cheesy potatoes is just mashed potatoes with shredded cheese on top not even melted in, the fresh green beans I sadly could not even eat more than one bite because they were so salty (tasted like canned green beans in salt water) the eggs were over cooked or cooked on a greasy pan because they were browned, the chicken tenders, fries, hot cake and grilled ham and cheese and hush puppies, and fried green tomatoes were...
Read moreOk where do I start on this review! I travel from Kentucky to Alabama 1 month in each state back and forth. I have done this for the past year and a half now and have wanted to make Stan’s country restaurant a resting point for me at some point. Well May 27th 2022 was the day I finally made that stop and it was around Noon. So on to the review the store front which is also a gas station looks great. Very clean nice employee (1) for the station part, all though it’s very cluttered from merchandise for souvenirs and snacking. The restaurant part is nicely decorated kinda reminds me of a Cracker Barrel atmosphere plenty of seating tables and booths. They lack employees had two servers and they were not that busy maybe 5 tables out of 20 were filled. The floor was nasty had to walk around food and stickiness, tables were clean but like half attempted. One waitress seemed very irritated that she was even there but luckily mine was in a good mood. I ordered the Meat Loaf dinner with 2 sides and a roll sweet tea to drink. The tea was very good. Meatloaf was very dense and hard crust on bottom and the taste was just bland. Mac n cheese had no taste added salt just to help that out and the mashed potatoes and gravy just straight up tasted like broccoli. I was very displeased with my meal but I did not complain to anyone as it was my choice to stop there for my meal. Now this is not to say any of there other food isn’t good it may be and to each there own on quality and taste of their food. This is strictly my own opinion. I will not stop there again unless I need fuel for my travels which I usually don’t. I hope this is helpful to someone curious about this place as I was. The meal with drink was $17.00 and I...
Read moreStan's has been around since 1947, and I believe it had been more than 20 years since the last time I went there. I went yesterday and it was very good! The service was fast and friendly and the waitress said it exchanged hands a few years ago and they built a new building, complete with gas station, food store, and gift shop. I ordered the BBQ plate with onion rings and slaw, plus a bowl of turnip greens. The BBQ was delicious, as was the sauce, and the onion rings and slaw were great sides. But the shining star was the bowl of turnip greens- it was HUGE! We're talking twice the size or more than the bowl of greens you get at Cracker Barrel, no kidding. And they were some of the best turnip greens I have had in a long time. The couple at the table in front of me both got burgers and fries, and they laughed when they saw me envy their plates as they were brought out, nice big and tall burgers with a whole lot of french fries.
After I paid, I wandered over to their store area and was surprised to find what a large selection of beers they have, not only in refrigerators but also a pretty big Beer Cellar. The more I looked, I spotted SIX different types of Chelada beers, one of my current favorite types of brews. I bought a Modelo Limon And Sal, because I had never seen that particular Chelada anywhere before. Gonna consume it this afternoon...
So there's not anything not to like about Stan's. Also an easy off and easy back on I-65 from either direction. Definitely gonna go back here again sooner than later. Their complete menu is online and as I watched the trays of food walking by me I didn't see anything that didn't look good and the portions...
