From start to finish, everything about Appalachia Restaurant was unforgettable the ambience, the atmosphere, and the breathtaking views of the mountains and Lake Lure. This was a birthday trip I planned for my wife, and I feel lucky to have chosen what turned out to be the best dining experience of our lives.

I’ve eaten all over the United States and in a few other countries, and I can honestly say this was the best food I’ve ever had. Executive Chef Tyler Seigle, along with his team and his wife Sydney, deliver one of the most passionate, precise, and inspiring culinary experiences I’ve encountered not just in North Carolina, but anywhere.

On our first night, our server Megan started us off with the pork belly appetizer, and I chose the duck confit as my entrée. Every plate was executed with such skill and passion that we knew immediately we had to return the very next day rather than try any other restaurant in the area.

On our second night, Sydney was our server, and we began with the Wagyu sampler an extraordinary tasting of American, Australian, and Japanese variations. My entrée, sage gnocchi with duck, was so masterfully prepared that I felt genuine sadness knowing I couldn’t eat here for every meal for the rest of my life.

This place isn’t just a restaurant it’s an experience. Appalachia is truly a gem, and we will...

Omg! Totally had our socks blown off! What a meal & experience! Lisa took very good care of us throughout the meal & added to our enjoyment.

For drinks, my hubby had the spicy mango margarita and i had a the Pickle My Fancy. Both were prepared and perfect. Enjoyed mine very much and followed it with an extra dirty Martini🍸

For starters, i had the gem wedge salad and hubby had the lobster bisique soup. The wedge salad had the best bleu cheese dressing on it as well as a healthy amount of bacon and sundried tomatoes. The soup was buttery and the lobster really shined through. The puff pastry was perfect to soak up the bisque.

For the main entrée, i ordered the NC blackened shrimp with jambalaya risotta, fried capers, rocket salad, and charred citrus. Hubby ordered the crab stuffed trout. The flavor was amazing on both dishes. On mine, the combined flavor of the blackened shrimp with the spicy creaminess of the risotta was amazing and loved the crispy capers! My hubbys fish was so moist & flavorful and paired well with the sweet crab and cannelini beans.

For dessert, we ordered the vanilla bean creme brulee which they decorated beautifully just for us.

Loved the tasty bite that the chef sent out of a pickled grape with gorgonzola and balsamic reduction.

Overall, a 5-star...

Our favorite restaurant to come to whenever we visit lake lure! It may not be a secret that lake lure is a bit low-key and remote, but when you make your way to the lodge/appalachia restaurant, it feels like you’ve discovered lake lure’s best-kept secret! The views, drinks, and excellent food are in my opinion the best I’ve found in the lake lure area. We love to come back each season to see the new menu offerings and seasonal cocktail offerings. Between the vieux carre and 525 there’s always something for bourbon lovers, and they have excellent bartenders that can adapt drinks to your palate. Most recently I requested the dusk to dark cocktail with reposado instead of mescal and it was top-notch! Their pork chop is amazing and we consistently order and love their steak special as well. The chef is very accommodating to gluten allergies and we’ve been able to do their steak and roasted potatoes without an issue. (The burrata is always amazing too).

I’m the future, It would be helpful if they labeled allergens on their menus, but the chef always does a great job with whatever you throw at them. Definitely recommend for a special occasion or just a cool place to show friends and family for...
