El Nopal Mexican Cuisine — Restaurant in Columbus

We arrived at 7:15. We had 6 people in our party. They were not busy. I have been here many times before and never had any issues. After we sat down there were 3 more tables that sat down 5 minutes, 10 minutes and 30 minutes after us. ALL three tables received thier food before we lefr. We sat there for 1 1/12 hours. After the last table got their food they came to us and told us they were out of rice...that was our tipping point. We went up front and asked to just pay for our drinks and cheese dip so we could leave. Never an apology and no let us take care of you just its 9.63 for your cheese and drinks. My husband and I met two other couples. We were seated quickly. Service was quick. I had a top shelf Margarita which was excellent. They had several Mexican beers on tap for my husband. The chips and salsa were free and bottomless. The menu was extensive. The food arrived in a nice amount of time. We had time to talk, didn't wonder where our food was, and didn't feel rushed. I had fish tacos; my husband, pork. Another in our group had tilapia. There was a chicken, shrimp and rice dish called Monica's Platter. The servings were large and the food was delicious. It’s kinda run down but still manages to be overpriced. But the main reason I would not go back is that a number of the servers are minor high schoolers and undocumented so that the owners can underpay them and under the table, and they can’t report them. I had no idea on this until I was making small talk with a lawyer in town who was going on that a local high school was just automatically graduating their Hispanic students with falsified grading in a “standards” program, and providing made up docs for minors to work. Both that school and these kinda businesses needed to be reported since they are scamming these minors out of a federally mandated equal education and fair/earned pay to support their families. Sad...
