I’ll start by saying, read the way these people respond to negative reviews. If you don’t wish to be treated that way as a customer, don’t take the chance. That said, it’s my fault for having not read the reviews which others haven taken the time to share. I personally don’t have a problem with the prices being higher than the value at this establishment, as we prefer to support local when we can afford to. The undercooked chicken didn’t even put a dent in our good time here, but then Raven (one of the owner, I’m told) shows up at the table to insist that the MULTIPLE pieces of chicken which were CLEARLY undercooked, were (according to her) cooked twice and temperature checked to find them all at 175 degrees. She offered to comp the meal and drinks (very generous, but unwanted and not accepted). I didn’t want anything except to let the kitchen know that some of the “wings” were too thick for the time/temp being used. I didn’t even ask to speak to anyone. Had I read the reviews, I would have seen it coming… I was amazed/horrified to find out it was an owner trying to make me understand I was WRONG about what I had just experienced. I wish I had taken a picture, but I had no intention of posting this experience. I left the establishment immediately after being “set straight” about what is what by Raven (to avoid major conflict) it was clear I would be told how wrong I (a fellow ServSafe manager) was about the chicken I had to spit out. I do not spit food out, especially in public (unless necessary). The manager Joe is no better. He DID take the time to return my call. However, it was only to tell me that I was wrong about how I received the message from Raven about being wrong about the chicken that was undercooked. Somewhere along the way he didn’t like my volume/tone (I wasn’t admitting I was just wrong and sorry for the bother), so he tried to chastise me like a child and fully waited for an apology. The call ended in a stalemate with Joe needing me to say I was wrong and me look for someone who would simply stop trying to get me to say I wrong about what I experienced. Furthermore, the unrequested/unwelcome/unwarranted lies that each piece of chicken is “stick-checked” (pierced with a thermometer for internal temperature) is more than a bit insulting. The wait staff is actually really wonderful. Wait for it… (let’s get...
Read moreI made a quick trip to Columbus today (Fri., 12/11/2020) and I couldn't resist the urge to stop by Hound Song. As you walk in you're quickly greeted by the tanks where the magic happens. The bar is centrally located and once your order your flight or pint you have the option to either sit indoor (front or rear) or outdoor (front porch). The staff were friendly and attentive. I was feeling the vibe and would have loved to hang around and sample some brews on site, but time wasn't on my side so I picked up three Crowlers (Farmhouse Ale, High Cotton and Double Backbone) and headed back to SA. I also loaded up on klobasniky with and without kraut and a bohemian pretzel paired with spice mustard. Unfortunately for the pretzel, it didn't make it to Weimar. It was wonderful.
Once I got home I opened the Double Backbone and enjoyed a klobasnek with Kasper's sausage and kraut while Vrazel's played in my head. I was impressed with the klobasnik. The bread had a hint of sweetness that reminded of the Little Bakery that iconic to Columbus. The Double Backbone was tasty. Don't let the darkness fool you. It's light and refreshing.
I look forward to tapping into the Farmhouse Ale and High Cotton this weekend.
Until next...
Read moreWhat a great brewery for such a small town. The town of Columbus should consider itself lucky to have a quality local brewery/brew pub like this
The location/building itself is a good atmosphere, but if you’re someone driving from Houston to some other place, you may not want to stop at a brewery in a random town just because it’s a nice spot. With this place the beer backs up the nice atmosphere and location. It’s only about 5-8 minutes off of I10 and the beer is damn good, the double backbone which is a Czech dark lager is delicious. Lots of low/reasonable abv beers if you’re just trying to have a flight or a pint or 2 and then leave to finish the trip
They serve food as well but I was in a bit of a hurry so didn’t get to try any of the main dishes. Just got a pasta salad to eat real quick but that was good and based on the menu I’d assume the food is as good as the beer.
Overall there’s a solid chance I’ll be back here someday in the future and I’d recommend whoever reads this to...
