As the newly coined saying goes, "If they can't afford the lights, you probably shouldn't eat there." While that's probably true, if you want cheap Americanized Chinese food and only care that it's edible, then don't let the darkened restaurant front scare you off.
The fried rice is yellow, first of all. And, while there were a few green onions, none of the other hallmarks of fried rice (e.g., peas, pork pieces, egg) were there. The taste is the same as the white rice. Which isn't terrible, but, sticky as it is, is perfect for chopsticks which, like the few other Asian restaurants I've been to, don't offer.
My friend got beef and veggies, and I got pork and Chinese veggies. Despite being differently named, they contained the same veggies, which were somewhat limp (although a few were crunchy), perhaps a result of mixing in fresher veggies with already steamed / cooked. The sauce on both was some sort of a brown sauce, which appeared to have been poured over the mixture rather than putting the mixture in a wok or other pan and stirring it together. A pool of oil settled around each platter.
The reason I gave 3 stars instead of 2 was because one dish can feed at least two and possibly three people. Especially if you get the mostly made of cabbage egg rolls and the all meat centered fried dumplings (aka potstickers).
The egg rolls, which I would never get again, were served with some gloppy, pink sour and sweet sauce. The potstickers were fine, and the soy sauce based dipping sauce was good.
A fairly large container of sweet tea, really sweet tea, was $1.75. It's fine diluted on a 1-1 basis with water.
There was no extra charge to eat in. And we ordered at the counter, but the food was brought to us.
With all that said, unless I were super desperate, I probably wouldn't go here again. Cheap food has its merits, but I'd prefer to pay more for...

Ā Ā Ā Read moreTried this place out and ordered a couple egg rolls, beef mai fun, steamed dumplings, house fried rice, sweet n sour chicken, chicken noodle soup, and egg drop wonton soup. Order came as ordered except I think the wonton soup was wrong? I never had egg drop wonton soup but i assumed it would have egg in it, and mine looked like normal wonton soup. The mai fun didn't have much taste and the beef was tiny strips. The sweet and sour chicken was soft and not crispy, might have been our drive without steam escaping or maybe old oil. For those who know what im talking about, they use the red goop for sweet n sour sauce, not the kind with the peppers, tomato and pineapple. The hot mustard packets were kinda gross and not hot at all. The egg roll was small, just slightly larger than a spring roll. The steamed dumplings were good, and we really enjoyed those. The food was done really fast, expect your order to be complete in 15-20 minutes. I think we will keep looking for a cantonese place to...
