I have lived in Hershey for almost seven years and driven by this establishment hundreds of times. However, a friend had some food and my fiancé tried it - something as simple as the bite of pizza he had really blew his mind!! Of course I had to go try for myself!
The reviews were amazing; the photos of the food, and their backstory really piqued my interest. A young couple who brought the food of their Sicilian homeland here to Hershey…well, yesterday I walked in to see how late they were open (on Mother’s Day) and to get a take out menu…
I was immediately transformed to a gorgeous restaurant, full of high energy and happy people. I love Italy and have it on my bucket list to visit; I feel like I’ve found my piece of Italy right here in Hershey!!
I was greeted by three employees with the most amazing smiles and they were genuinely happy to see me, to know I was gonna get in on the best kept secret in Hershey!! They could not have been more courteous, and honestly made me feel like I was already one of their treasured customers.
So I ordered the antipasto platter for two ($12.99); the spaghetti with house meatballs ($16.99); the deluxe cheesesteak ($10.99); the cheesesteak ($10.55) and an order of mozzarella sticks ($7.25).
Let me just say, I wish I had pictures…I do not, because once I saw the antipasto, I was HOOKED. Served in a clear take-out container, I positively drooled over the amount of prosciutto, salami, a soft peppercorn cheese, a hard Parmesan type cheese, green grapes and the olives…oh, those garlicky olives…yes, I wish I had pictures because as soon as I opened it I dug in and by the time I remembered to take a picture it was half gone! The prosciutto positively melted in my mouth…it was heavenly!!
The spaghetti with house meatballs was an overwhelming favorite, and the subs were great.
I can’t help but wonder how they stay in business, charging such reasonable prices for such OUTSTANDING food.
Please run - do not walk - to Mangia Mangia, located next to Steve’s General Store. Next time I’ll eat in so I can soak in all that Sicilian atmosphere goodness!!
I leave by saying I am usually disappointed when I eat out. I’m pretty picky and the food almost always disappoints me. I am so pleased to find a place that can be my go-to for amazing food!!
Keep up the good work, Mangia Mangia! Can’t wait to...
Read moreThis is my second visit to Mangia, and I'm just not impressed. The best part of our meal both times was dessert (5 star) but the rest of the meal falls short. Family of 5 went for my mother's birthday. Honestly, it'd NOT worth the prices they are charging. Let not forget they are BYOB, but charge a $5 "corking" fee for the privilege of allowing me to drink the wine I brought with me. In this case, my Coppola Pinot Grigio has a SCREW TOP, so they never even touched the bottle. It's only $5, but it's principle...
Furthermore, the restaurant is small, and seemed almost dusty. Menus were tattered and falling apart, light bulbs out in the overhead lights. This place just seems blah. Service was fine, bit after the food came, we didn't see much from the server.
My mother ordered veal, which she said she enjoyed but the serving of angel hair was quite small for a place called "eat eat".
My son and I both ordered linguine w/ clams. His w/ red and mine w/ wine sauce. The cooks failed to properly prep the clams which caused both of the dishes to be extremely GRITTY. The white wine sauce was so samdy you could HEAR the spoon rubbing grit around and it changed the sauce in the bottom to an unappealing color or sand. My son also complained that his red sauce was full of grit beyond an acceptable limit.
My wife and father both ordered fettuccine Alfredo, and while the flavor was good, the consistency was way off. As soon as it started to cool it turned to a thick mass that tasted of flour and felt terrible in the mouth. Good Alfredo sauce won't congeal after 5 minutes on a plate unless flour is used, and it should never be used!
Now dessert was delicious. Espresso with hazelnut gellato and lemoncello were top notch. If I could go there just for...
Read moreI dined here last night with a group of friends.. Because I'm Celiac (gluten-free medically required), I called ahead to inquire if they had any GF options and was told yes...pasta and pizza. Good thing I asked ...they cook the pasta in the same water they use for regular pasta which cross-contaminates it, so I ordered a GF margarita pizza.
I have eaten a lot of GF pizza and pasta in the last 20 years, both in the U.S. and Italy, and this was the absolute worst. The crust tasted like a dry cracker ($5.00 upcharge for the GF option), but beyond that, there was no sauce on it...just cheese, some chopped up tomato and a few basil leaves. While telling the manager that they had forgotten the sauce, the employee behind the register smiled and said, "I told you!" to the guy making the pizzas. The manager said that margarita pizzas don't have sauce, to which I responded that I'd NEVER had one that didn't have sauce. She asked if I wanted a cup of sauce to pour over it. REALLY?? When I declined she kindly offered to make a new pizza. By the time it came out everyone else in my party of six was done with their meals (which they seemed to enjoy) and I was disappointed again...the pizza looked exactly like the first one...no sauce spread over the crust...just some sauce dropped on top in about four spots. It had NO taste and it occurred to me after I left that there was no oregano, garlic or any other Italian spices on it. I ate two pieces and the rest went in the trash when I got home. They were very busy so I'm sure they won't miss my business. And BTW, traditional margarita pizza...
