It was a disappointing day today. One of our favorite local restaurants appears to be making the same compromises as many others are, for nothing but the almighty dollar. We all understand that running a decent eatery is far from cheap or easy. But today was an example of how certain managerial decisions can doom a good thing. Prices are up more than a little, while quality of certain items was down more than a little. Valenza's hasn't gotten bad, but this family has no plans to order anything Alfredo any time soon. Without the parmesan shaker on the table, the sauce on the pasta would have only tasted like white sauce. As usual, service was decent. The Valenza's special sub was very good. Hoping things will go back to excellent.
Update - Original review was three stars. Had to drop to one. Vicki ordered takeout calzone with several "stuffings" for herself, and an order of fries for me. The large calzone with extra stuffings was almost $30, the fries almost $3. The fries tasted good, but for the price should have been more than one medium potato.
Now the calzone.... A calzone is basically a topped pizza, folded in half, baked until the dough is golden brown. More than one of the stuffings were token quantities... barely detectable throughout most of the calzone. The calzone is supposed to be sealed on the open edge so that the stuffings are spread evenly throughout, as if it was a folded pizza. Nope. A very large amount of the calzone was nothing but bread. On to Valenza's greatest shame; totally raw, uncooked dough on one side.
Could I be more disappointed... in my imagination, sure. Considering this was intended as a special treat for someone I love, no. I'm just glad Vicki didn't end up sick.
This is not the first time I've said this and been correct... If Valenza's does not seriously resolve their cranial/rectal inversion, Albion will lose what used to be a great eatery. Thankfully, there are...
Read moreMy order was messed up about a week and 3 days ago….. i had received a Buffalo chicken bacon ranch pizza instead of a plain chicken bacon ranch pizza. Even though I specifically asked if it came with only chicken bacon and ranch and was told yes. So I called and was told I could come get a new pizza and it was good for at least a week. I even offered to bring the pizza back that same day so I wasn’t stuck eating or trying to eat a Buffalo chicken pizza. So it’s been about a week and 3 days…..I figured I would call and it would be understood that I had dinner plans for the past few nights and wanted my pizza today. But I was then told they throw out the names of their mess ups every single day at the 7 day mark of them being in there, not a day later. I think it’s a bit stuck up and foolish to have such a system….. You admit you made a mistake on my order just either be willing to fix the problem or don’t. Crazy to me I’m on THEIR time for THEM messing up MY order and not the other way around. Very disappointed. Probably won’t be back. Stinks cause the other food I ordered like mozzarella sticks were tasty especially with their...
Read moreWell... we've been here a handful of times (its unfortunately close to my grandma's house so she always wants to go there)... it's a very underwhelming meal... the soups are probably the best thing they offer ... on my most recent visit (5/11/19) my salad was OKAY but probably prepped the night before because it was pretty settled and not super fresh looking... I had the chicken piccata I DO NOT reccomend it!! They killed it with capers and doubled down with dill?? in the sauce (dear chef try some rosemary to balance it)... I couldn't even eat it... the alfredo was okay but tasted like canned sauce... my pasta was just below al dente and the steamed broccoli was ... well ... broccoli and probably my favorite part of the meal... the service during our visits has ranged from lackluster to downright horrible but since we went as a family they forced an 18% tip on to our bills... all in all I don't recommend this location (I've had better luck with their meadville...
