The last time I was at this restaurant was probably 10 ago. I remember the place being tired looking, expensive, and food not that great. Since then, new owners have taken over. Hereâs my summery: The place had been newly revamped/remodeled, nicely decorated and was clean and fresh feeling, so kudos there! There were two of us there dining on a Sunday around 6pm and the place was nearly empty with only one waiter/owner working the floor. The service was slow. It was 15min before we got our drinks and another 15 before we placed our orders. There were only two kinds of steaks offered on the menu. Ribeye and filet mignon, which for being a steakhouse, was a bit of a disappointment. I expect to at least see sirloin and New York offered. They only offer prime rib on Thursdays. The steak comes with potatoes and vegetables only. So if you want a salad, thatâs another seven bucks extra. When our food finally arrived, aside from the 14 ounce ribeye we ordered, the rest of portions were small. The salad was a disappointment as well being very small, and hardly anything in the lettuce beside the one tomato I counted. When the food finally arrived, it was tepid and the steaks were a bit tough, too. In short, it cost us over $200 bucks (tip included) for two steaks, one glass of house wine, one coffee, two lousy salads, and two desserts. Needless to say, I did not leave there feeling like I got my moneyâs worth in either service or food. To be fair, I know that restaurants are up against it, especially in California where wages, services, regulations, and food cost are driving high prices. But lettuce, vegetables, and potatoes are still on the cheaper side of things, and good prompt service should be a given. I do hope 50 Grand Steakhouse will read and improve here, as I wish them success in one of the most difficult business to thrive in here...
Read moreWe recently dined at 50 Grand Restaurant and Bar in Pollock Pines, CA, in anticipation of a family gathering in November. We chose to visit on a Sunday night, and though they offered the lunch menu only in the bar, we decided to give it a try. Our experience exceeded expectations. Molly, our bartender, was incredibly welcoming and accommodating, and the waitstaff was equally pleasant.
The drink selection at the full bar was impressive, and I thoroughly enjoyed the Bloody Mary, while my husband savored a beer on tap. We indulged in the artichoke dip and Mac and cheese from the appetizer menu, both of which were exceptional. For our main courses, I opted for the ribs and fries with a side salad, and my husband went for the battered chicken sandwich with friesâboth were delicious.
In our excitement, we dug into our meals so swiftly that we forgot to capture a picture! For dessert, we shared a delightful lemon cheesecake accompanied by a well-made cappuccino. I highly recommend saving room for this sweet treat.
Our experience was so outstanding that we made a reservation for our family gathering before leaving. There's no need to explore other options; 50 Grand Restaurant and Bar has won us over. When in Pollock Pines, especially after a day at Jenkinson Lake, biking, hiking, or simply enjoying the natural beauty, don't miss this hidden gem nestled among the pine trees in town. It's sure to be a perfect choice for...
Read moreWe went on a Saturday at 6pm with a reservation. We all four decided that we where going to order the prime rib special that they do two nights a week one being the night we where there âSaturday Nightâ. It wasnât until we were to order the prime rib that the waitress informed us that they didnât have the prime rib because it was over cooked that day and they were using it on special.pizza. We were caught off guard so we decided we would order the famous 50 grand deep fried prime rib. The waitress stated I really hope you arenât disappointed ordering that.We should have caught on to that, but obviously didnât. The plates were no doubt large portions but unfortunately the flavor was not good tasted like reheated and being it was breaded the fat was hidden. Soooo fatty, you had to scrape off the breading in order to not eat the large amounts of fat on the prime rib .Out of 4 of us 1 finished another ate half his plate the other two maybe a third. We did mention the disappointment to the waitress only to be blown off by a simple sorry about that and walked away. For the price per person to eat there you would think there would be a better response. Especially since they didnât offer the prime rib dinner they are known for, and especially since some of our plates were still completely full. We all...
