I've eaten in here twice since they remodeled and switched from a southern style buffet to a more upscale "inspired" restaurant. I must say I was not "wowed" either time, and I probably won't ever go back. Sleep was lost last night because of impressive stomach cramps and nausea after the fact.
The first time I had tempura shrimp with Brussels sprouts and French fries. The shrimp was very pretty, but the actual size and portion was disappointing for the price. The Brussels sprouts were very crunchy and didn't feel like they'd been cooked at all, just rolled around in the sauce, thrown into a bowl, and delivered to the table. The fries were toothpick style, served with some sort of shredded hard cheese and parsley, but the fries were ice cold when served. I ended up leaving the majority of the Brussels sprouts and fries behind because they were simply inedible.
I tried again just recently and selected Popi's chicken. Based on the description it was a grilled chicken breast topped with cheese and Portobello mushrooms, a side of asparagus, and creamed potatoes. No substitutions. The presentation was amazing. It looked and smelled delicious. However, the asparagus was crunchy like it hadn't been cooked, the Portobello mushroom slices on top of the chicken were burnt black and tasted vaguely of charcoal dust with slight mushroom flavor, and the chicken breast tasted like lighter fluid topped with melted cheese. I scraped everything to the side of the plate and ate the potatoes with the brown gravy on top and left the rest behind. Others in my party felt pretty much the same about the food and abandoned their steaks and salads as inedible because of sheer toughness of the meat or overpowering, rancid flavors.
If you want to spend a lot of money, and leave 75% of the food on the plate, this...
Read moreThis is an edited review for this location because it is no longer Majestic Steakhouse. It is a restaurant called Popi's. It is one of those trendy places with weird shaped plates and servers almost always wear black and white outfits. We walked in and thought... oh oh.. how do we get out of here without causing a scene. But they had us greeted and seated before we knew what had happened! Very impressive. I thought, well we can at least look at the menu before we take an emergency phone call. I looked, and yep, there are the descriptions with that number out to the side. No dollar signs, no cents, just a lonely number that places such as this do. Sigh. But, the prices weren't that bad actually. They seemed pretty good, so we decided to order. My wife got a burger and fries and I got a Mediterranean pizza. Usually, you expect the trendies, such as these type of restaurants, to spend a month researching the shape of the plate and a sconce on the wall without working on the quality of the food. BUT THE FOOD IS EXCELLENT. Yes. Popi's, this trendy restaurant has finally hit both worlds with a winner. Modern, but tastes great with excellent down to earth service where you feel welcomed to be there. How good was it really? We ordered 2 more burger meals to take to someone else because we wanted them to try it. So....dont judge a book by its cover applies to many viewpoints. Go try Popi's in...
Read moreIf I would have written a review after our first visit, I would have gave it 5 stars. However, upon our second visit I am being generous and giving 3 stars. I am basing this scoring on both visits. My chopped steak was dry. The first visit it was grilled perfectly and juicy. Our $9 glasses of wine were very skimpy pours. The wine was very good, but for $9 a glass it should not make you question whether you were cheated or not. My mother's entire plate was cold. A positive note was that our server Conner gave excellent service. However, to no fault of his own, he was not old enough to serve our wine, and he had to repeatedly go up to the bar and inquire why our small $9 glasses of wine were taking so long. On our first visit the atmosphere that was very classy and elegant. On our second visit, we were a 4 top table in a room with several big parties. The table we sat at was worn out looking and it was so loud we could hardly hear each other. This last visit was most disappointing because we took my parents after telling them how amazing it was based on our first visit. The second visit was not at all worth the $100 bill...
