Hands down, the BEST clam chowder I have had in my life. Let me tell you, Iāve eaten a lot of chowder and crab in my life. I visited Spud Point Crab Company for the first time in July of 2021 while on a road trip. First of all, this place is s a picturesque seafood shack that youād read about locals going to in a Nicholas Sparks book. With the water across the street and all the fishing gear in sight, you know youāre getting fresh food. I got the white clam chowder bowl with bread (they give you a full loaf, great deal). It was absolutely heavenly. The clams and potatoes were so delicious and the broth had the best flavoring to it. Itās the original white clam chowder but somehow so different and better than any other youāll have. The next summer I planned another road trip with Spud Point being one of my main motivators. This time, I was prepared. I ordered three white clam chowders and a crab sandwich. After eating one chowder, I decided two was not enough to take with me so I ordered one more. Thatās right, I ate leftovers for lunch and dinner the next three days (and thatās only cause I ate it as sparingly as my will power allowed). The crab sandwich was also AMAZING and I wish I got three of those, too. So fresh and delicious. We continued our trip and I ordered chowder everywhere we went so I could compare it to Spud Point. It just wasnāt even a competition, nothing compared. I cannot recommend this place enough. I probably should have mentioned earlier that I live in Maryland, across the country from Spud Point. I literally planned a road trip to go back there after the first trip because it was that life changing. The only thing that pains me is that they are so far from me, because when I am craving chowder, now nothing around me will suffice. I live in Maryland but the only crab I want is the sandwich from Spud Point!!! Best clam chowder ever, it has my heart. I canāt wait to go back. (Iāve also never written a review about food but had...

UPDATE
I started my year here in January, and ending it here in December. Another wonderful trip in beautiful Bodega Bay, though living in the Bay Area I am able to go on short notice when the weather is beautiful. Sitting at Spud's enjoying my usual crab sandwich and new england style clam chowder, that I always seem to find time to fit in twice a trip, I was sitting here for no real reason and gazing through other reviews. Here's what I've got to say to a few that gave a low rating: Yes, sitting is outside, and it is Bodega Bay after all, so dinging the place because of weather because you're outside in the cold is not a reflection on Spud's but your own poor research (and timing) in the visit. Yes, its a crab sandwich, and it costs (now) $12.95 that simply is on a soft bun with their own homemade sauce. But seriously, dinging them for it being over priced, really!!! Guess you have little idea what the real cost of crab meat is. On the coast it's typically $40 a pound and inland its around $40. So dinging a place for price when there is a 1/4 pound of fresh picked crab meat in it shows only how out of touch you are. Yes, the crab cakes sell out early. Hey, and they're also only on the weekend (though I've been here during season and they seem to popup on weekdays sometimes). And it says so on their menu and website (again, poor research does not justify a poor review). Plus, they are made fresh daily - so if the option is serving day old or tossing out food, I myself will settle for them...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis was on my #1 restaurant list in Bodega Bay. We visited around 11:30am right before the lunch rush hour. The stall is in a small shack with few outside tables at the front of the property. Parking is very limited so we parked at the back alley.
The ordering system is very efficient. Right after the cashier rang my order, all of the items were ready (they already put the chowder in cups & pre-packed the sandwich). The chowders were still piping hot though and the sandwich wasn't ice cold.
What we ordered: New England white clam chowder: it was delicious. The soup was creamy and it contained lots of clam pieces. However, it was a tad too salty to my liking.
Manhattan clam chowder: surprisingly my favorite between the two chowders! Delicioussss! The tomato based soup had a nice balance of sourness, sweetness & saltiness. It also had lots of clam pieces. It tasted fresh & more like cioppino in my opinion.
Crab sandwich: simple yet delicious! It looked small but it filled with lots and lots of crab meat. The homemade mayo sauce was tasty! The good thing was they put enough sauce to complement the crab meat.
By the time we finished our meal (around 12ish), the line was getting long but it moved pretty fast. Many people ordered the food to go which is good idea since seatings are limite Will definitely recommend this to everyone & will definitely come back when we're...
