El Tapatio Fresh Mex HWY 111 @ TA Truck Stop EXIT 288 — Restaurant in Cookeville

While traveling home from Spring Break, I was looking at stops along the way for a spot to stop for dinner. A search for restaurants ahead and El Tapatio popped up. After looking at reviews and the menu, I knew they would not disappoint. They did not. It's located in the food court of a truck stop and it was delicious. They cook your order on the grill in front of you. They have many options of what to add to your burrito, bowl, quesadilla, etc...plus if you like spicy, like my husband, they have the good sauce down below. Just ask. Good food but very over priced. I ordered Nachos for $15 and that was steep but doable. I get to the checkout and the final price was $18+ because apparently the nachos doesn't come with cheese, and they just ask if you want this topping, that topping, and if you want cheese. No mention was made that the cheese was another $2 and I only realized when I looked at the register to confirm why it was so expensive.

Also, the smart card coupons are no good here because they are "affiliated" but not the same company as the other El Tapatio restaurants.

🔥. Birria and Carnitas were both excellent, as was the ceviche. The menu looks really expensive but when you get your plate you see what you paid for. Tortillas are bigger than your standard el milagro and they are STUFFED. I also ordered 2 ceviche tostadas and got more ceviche than I could fit on 2 tostadas so the name of the game here is quality food, big serving. Worth the price. Also, being a white guy some places won't give me their hottest sauce or peppers. Which is a shame because I'm that guy. These guys did and their hottest sauce was HOT and amazing.
