Absolutely wonderful restaurant with excellent food and a great atmosphere. This is actually our favorite restaurant in Corpus Christi, and here's why:
The food is absolutely delicious. Everything is fresh, of excellent quality, and made to order. And if you sit at the counter, you can watch the chefs prepare your dish in what is hands-down one of the cleanest kitchens I have ever seen (and I have seen a lot of restaurant kitchens). The chefs here are passionate about what they do, and it reflects in the dishes they prepare. Beautiful presentation and wonderful flavors. Yes, it takes a while to get your food. But it is absolutely worth the wait and completely understandable considering everything is made to order.
It's like dining among friends and family. Again, I highly recommend you sit at the counter and interact with the chefs while they prepare your dish. From the first time we ate here, everyone treated us like old friends and made us feel at home.
The food is packed with traditional flavors, but some have a fusion twist that makes them a little more interesting. I'm actually very familiar with Peruvian cuisine, and I was impressed with the authenticity of the flavors and style of the dishes. Every single thing I've tried has honestly been delicious. One dish in particular I'll recommend for anyone wanting to try something very traditional, is the Lomo Saltado. It's one of Peru's staple dishes and the way they make it here is absolutely spot-on. It's essentially a sautƩ of beef with onions, tomatoes, and green peppers served over a bed of white rice and topped with french fries. One of the main flavors in the dish is aji amarillo, a Peruvian pepper that has just the right amount of spice and is packed with flavor.
The selection of fish varies, and when you come in they will tell you what is available that day. It's really neat because you can choose what fish you want in your dish, which gives you the opportunity to experiment a little bit. (Ever try tuna in your ceviche? It's actually very good!) I've had the tuna, the salmon, and the snapper - all very tender and incredibly fresh.
The owner's mom bakes the desserts, and they are seriously to die for. Especially the "Cuatro Leches" with coconut milk and the Pisco-infused chocolate cake.
Great selection of beers and cocktails. They also love to experiment with their cocktails, so make sure to ask if they're making something different that day. They were recently offering a ginger-lime-Pisco drink that was just so deliciously refreshing.
I could really go on forever (and it appears I have), but the point is if you appreciate good food and a good dining atmosphere, this place...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI wish I could give this more than 2 stars. If it was a regular, non-busy night, it would have probably been close to a 3-4 star dinner. Butā¦their air conditioning was out, which was fine, we were ok to sit outside - not ideal on an August evening after being at the beach all day, but there was a breeze, so it was ok, since it meant we didnāt have to wait to be seated. What they should have told us, was that we could be seated right away, but that we would not get food for two hours. As soon as we sat, I ordered an appetizer because we had three Hangry teenagers. We got the nachos. It took about 45 minutes for those to come out and they were gone in about 2 minutes. There were five of us and I think we each got two chips. However, it was delicious, so we had high hopes for our food. Unfortunately, when our meals finally came out almost two hours later, the meals didnāt live up to those nachos. We ordered shrimp tacos, fried avacado tacos, the shrimp curry and two other dishes ( I canāt remember). The tacos were not great. Whatever sauce they had on them (between an eel sauce and a teriyaki sauce), there was so much, thatās all it really tasted like. The shrimp did NOT have a seasoned and grilled flavor like I would expect from a shrimp taco. And the tortilla tasted like they should have been grilled or at least put into a pan for a minute or so. My husband who had the curry shrimp - well the sauce on his shrimp tasted good, but there was just a little sauce on the shrimp and more than half of the plate was rice, which was very dry and there was no sauce for the rice. So basically his dinner was about 8 shrimp and that was it.
I felt bad for the wait staff and kitchen staff - it had to be horrible in there cooking and serving with the air conditioner out. The owner/manager definitely should have done more to make it bearable for them and honestly, should have started turning customers away, if the wait for food was going to be ridiculously long. Not just our server, but other staff (maybe it was a manger) came to our table to apologize for such a long wait. But didnāt offer anything to compensate. A few other things - when our food finally came, it was all staggered so two of us were done eating by the time the two girls even got their food. Also, two of us got margaritas on the rocks, they were pretty bad. Maybe the cheapest tasting tequila Iāve ever had. My husband didnāt even drink half of his. I got a mojito and it was good. Unfortunately, we will defintely not be going back to this place. I would highly suggest only going if it is not a busy night or you are ok with waiting a long time...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis place was popular tonight so the parking lot was full. You have to find parking on the grass but beware the drainage ditch. When you first walk in youāll notice a bar atmosphere and a smoky haze that hangs throughout the room. At first I thought I was in a cigar joint. Then I realized that itās coming from the open kitchen and whatever fan is there isnāt working. So come prepared to go home smelling of whatever is popular that day. Second youāll notice that the tables are all crooked. Some more than others. Itās hilarious to watch other people eating like in a Picasso painting. Thirdly thereās an ATM machine next to the bar. Why is it there, I wondered. The bar was full and it looked like they were busy. They got the orders quick enough. It took a long time for the food to come out. Looking into the kitchen it looked like there was only one cook on the station with the fire. The Food. Almost everything we ordered was salty on the magnitude of 3. I had the tuna nachos and the only way it was slightly bearable was eating it with the nacho chips. In fact the best thing about that nacho was the chips. The salt and pepper wings had something very tart with an odd taste. It wasnāt a pleasant taste. My little nephew spit it out on the 1st try. The shrimp curry was way off the chart in one spice. It was not edible. Iāve never had curry like that before. The Pescado saltado was so salty. The ceviche was meh. The coconut tres leches doesnāt stand up to a normal tres leches. There was supposed to be all these Asian flavors and somehow it all went wrong. Being that Iām Asian I canāt imagine any true Asian accepting this standard of cooking. If this was an off night then they really need to work on consistency with someone needing to check on the quality of food being sent out. 2 stars for food. 3 for service. 2 for the...
