HardKnocks Sports Grill — Restaurant in Corpus Christi

I had a late lunch here with my sister. We were greeted and seated immediately as the restaurant was almost empty. After a bit of a wait we finally gave our orders. My sister ordered the taco salad which she has had before. I ordered a standard burger all the way with pepper jack cheese. The meal took a little while to come out considering that the restaurant was almost empty, but the food was hot and fresh and looked delicious. My burger tasted as good as it looked and was a nice size. The fries were really good, lightly seasoned with something that really added flavor. My burger patty was just a little bit dry which is why I gave the food a 4 star rating. Otherwise it was excellent. My sister said her taco salad was very good and it looked like it was packed with fixings. The staff were all friendly and polite but seemed to be in no hurry which is why I gave the service 4 stars. The atmosphere was very nice, with a large bar area central to the restaurant. There were many large screen TVs hanging all about with different games , sporting events and news programs. They had a large garage door on the front of the building which was open allowing for plenty of fresh air, unfortunately it also allowed many flies into the restaurant which is why I gave 4 stars for atmosphere. All in all I enjoyed my food and my restaurant experience but there were just a few negatives that limited my over all rating to 4 stars. I have had it with this place. The last 3 times we attempted to eat here the service has been slow and the food is other cold or wrong. When I tried to tell our waitress she and her peers were tucked away in a corner on their phones. This took an extra 20 minutes in trying to get someone to help. When I advised our waitress and she felt my cold food, her response was “the cook took their break” and they were behind.

Frustrated that this was the 3 incident, I contacted the manager. When he came to our table I asked him to turn around and looks at the corned by the kitchen. He immediately noticed at least 4 girls deeply ready their phones instead of helping customers. He did apologize and offered to comp my meal - for which I refused. I was not there to get a free meal; rather, enjoy one.

Our final attempt was today. We walked in for appetizers and a meal. A young lady walked up to me and instead of seating me began to tell me of everything they were out of. Instead of taking a table we walked to the bar to sit there. Our bar was dirty and filled with empty glasses. We waited for the bartender to address us, but after passing us 6 times…yes 6, and diverting their eyes towards the middle of the bar instead of looking at us sitting there, we got up and left.

The food here is no better than microwave to table and I will never waste another day in this restaurant. We headed down to “The Pelican Lounge” were there is good food, service, pool table...

We came on a Sunday night about 8:40 pm. It was the Sunday before Labor Day. Inside was very COLD so we sat outside on the patio. There was a table of 5 people, a table of 2, and a table of 3. We sat there almost 15 minutes without being waited on. In the interim, another table of 3 and a table of 8 sat down. I finally went in asked if a waitress was going to wait on us and let the hostess know that 2 more tables also needed a waitress. We finally got our food, hamburger and salad. Another group of 8 came in and sat down and went in asked for waitress. The first table of 8 waited almost 30 minutes, going in 3 times asking to be waited on and finally the manager came out. Now the other party of 8 ended up leaving. So for the story end,we left at 9:50, the first party of 8 finally were being served their drinks, tea and water, bet they don't get their food until 10:30 ! This was the worst service we've ever had !! I wouldn't ever go back there again. The inside of the restaurant wasn't even 1/2 full and the waitresses spent most their time standing area in the back area. DO NOT GO THERE UNLESS YOU HAVE NOTHING ELSE TO DO !!! FOOD ISN'T THAT GOOD.
