Great coffee, terrible service. Perfect example — I was just at the annex location on 9th, I went there to get a cup of coffee and study. I brought my laptop and charger, I picked a place to sit and started setting everything up in my little corner. I had brought with me a breakfast item that was not from coffee culture because I am on a strict diet and their food options didn’t meet my needs. I sat down to turn my laptop on and then one of the baristas came up to me and very confrontationally said “excuse me, you cannot have outside food in here ESPECIALLY if you’re not ordering anything. That’s why theres a sign about it right in front of you.” And she walked off. Mind you, after I set my things up I was literally going to go order a coffee… but she didn’t give me a single minute to do so before telling me I needed to leave. I totally understand the no outside food rule! That wasn’t what upset me, it’s the rudeness and lack of tact from this woman that was upsetting. After this incident I gathered my things and left because I was really upset and didn’t feel like telling her the truth which was I was about to order, I just wanted to get out of there quite honestly. Is it really that hard to speak to a human being kindly? It shouldn’t be. But this is not the first time I’ve been treated this way by the girls that work here. I have been to each coffee culture location so many times because I honestly really love the coffee and haven’t found another place with this quality, but I won’t be going back because time and time again I’m treated poorly by the employees. I don’t stand for that, so I won’t be supporting this place any longer. Very disappointing...
Read moreYes, we got kicked out. After drinking coffee and studying for 1 & 1/2 hours at Coffee Culture, they told us they were very busy and asked us to give up our table.
Me and another paying customer met at the Coffee Culture on King Blvd next to Freddies. We grabbed a 2-person table, ordered a drink, and sat down to begin studying (with our notes- no laptops). All around us there we laptops, couples chatting, people on cell phones, a typically busy coffee shop. There were no free tables, and we were expecting a third to join us. Because all of the 4-person table were occupied, we grabbed the first empty table and pulled it up to ours to make room. Within a 15 minute time period, we were bothered 4 times by the wait-staff inquiring whether we were using our newly-acquired table. Luckily, our third person arrived, sat down, and we started studying. After just over an hour, we were bothered a fifth time when they asked us to move because they needed our table. We found it very odd that the none of the single coffee drinkers sitting at their own table were asked to give up their table. Neither we the several couples with laptops that were taking up the large round tables. I guess three single female professional students are not the type of coffee-drinkers they hope to cater to.
So, for all of the rest of you coffee-drinking vet students: Coffee Culture does not want your business. At least not when it's busy. I'd recommend Starbucks, Sahalie's, Sunnyside, McMenamin's, or just about any other business with Wi-Fi. By the way- all of these business will find you a table near an outlet and give you free...

Friendly, fresh, quality, chill playlist, clean, nom.
The staff is very friendly and "hip". They work hard to ensure the quality of your drink is up to par. They will not serve you an espresso shot if it is not dialed in. Plus, they regularly have multiple blends on, so you can diversify your espresso pallet. If you have not done a side-by-side espresso tasting, I highly recommend trying this and asking your barista for some guidance.
The froth on their lattes is expertly executed (bubble size and thickness) and aesthetic. I cannot say the same for other coffee shops in the area. The beans make a wonderful addition to my kitchen. I have the Nicaraguan running through my Chemex on the weekends and am very satisfied with the result. My friends now come to my place for coffee regularly... maybe they're using me for the caffeine... either way.
They do serve their coffee from a drip. I am pretty sure you can ask for French press... maybe even pour over, but I don't know as I am not going to be that guy.
Love the playlist, I do not even bother putting in my headphones. The place is also kept very clean. It does get crowded during the day, but have patience and you will find the right spot for you. Cannot speak for the food.
Overall, Coffee Culture on Kings has been a great place to study, drink coffee, and meet up...
