From the moment I first stepped into Alpha Coffee Cafe nestled at the base of Big Cottonwood Canyon, I knew I had discovered a special place. Not only does Alpha boast some of the most breathtaking views of any coffee shop in the valley, but it also serves as a vibrant community gathering spot that truly enriches our neighborhood.
What sets Alpha Coffee Cafe apart, aside from the views, is the expertise and warmth of its staff. Chloe and Dom, two of Alpha's coffee maestros, are behind some of the best lattes I've had. Their extensive knowledge of coffee is impressive, and their passion is infectious. Chloe even gave me an impromptu latte art lesson (TAP THE FOAM, START HIGH AND GO LOW). Watching them craft each cup with such care and artistry is a testament to their dedication and skill.
Sasha, with her friendly smile and warm welcome, makes every visit great. It's rare to find someone who makes you feel like you're coming to a friend's house each time you walk through the door, but Sasha does just that. Her hospitality is a huge addition to the cafe's inviting atmosphere.
One of the coolest aspects of Alpha Coffee Cafe is how the staff makes it a point to remember my name. This personal touch adds a layer of connection and community that is hard to find elsewhere. It's a small gesture that means so much and truly makes every visit feel special.
Sitting in the cafe, sipping on an expertly crafted latte while chatting with friends, gazing out at the beautiful views, is an experience I've become quite addicted to. It's a place where you can pause, breathe, and take in the beauty of the Wasatch Front.
Alpha is more than just a coffee shop; it's a blessing to our neighborhood. It's a place where community, coffee, and warmth blend seamlessly to create an unforgettable experience. I am grateful for Chloe, Dom, Sasha, and the entire team for making this cafe a beacon of joy and connection in Salt Lake City. If you're looking for exceptional coffee, friendly faces, and a place to feel welcomed, look no...

Ok coffee and food, but unfortunately one of the most expensive and definitely the slowest coffee shop in SLC. The teens at the coffee bar are super chatty and spend more time talking to their friends that making coffee. Get ready to wait 10-15 minutes for a latte in an almost empty shop. Even artisan shops doing pourovers and latte art do better, and they do it cheaper.
Despite the owner's response, the fact remains that it's a mediocre latte or mocha (not a steak, definitely a burger), made with over-roasted espresso and grainy, poorly mixed 'artisan' chocolate. These three baristas turned out a total of 3 drinks across the bar in 15 minutes. There was no walking and chewing gum. Just talking...and talking...while the customers waiting with me exchanged looks. Online orders ad nothing to do with it, because there just weren't shots being pulled, drinks being made, or cups going into anyone's hands. It wasn't a showing to be proud of, and the defensive response tells you enough about how much they're willing to change. This isn't an anomaly. It's the standard, and a reason why I don't visit here regularly.
For what it's worth, at the same time that they couldn't make drinks because it wasn't a priority, they couldn't figure out how to sell me a pastry in the case because it wasn't "in the system", and there was a barking dog eating gelato from a cup in the eating area, which is a health code violation. It's an unmanaged junk show.
Finally, I'm glad that they say they've 'held the line' on your prices. They're still too high for the medium quality coffee. The owner's Rivian says more than I can about...
Read moreHere’s a real review! Not one with spite and weird personal offenses as I’ve seen. :) A) Fabulous Coffee. The Viking is great, especially if it’s extra hot and right amount of butter. So good. Honey Badger, also good. Regular latte, great. Drop coffee, just right. B) Quality is great. They take pride in their shop. Cant fault that, can ya? C) Service is interestingly slow. I’ve been over 30 times and I don’t recall any quickness about it. We’ve now learned to try to order online 15 min. ahead and that seems to work ok. Is it a reason to not go? Not at all. Worth the wait but it’s not unusual to wait 7-10 min. for two drinks. D) their purpose is admirable and a good reason to patronize the place E) staff is fine. Never been treated weird or poorly. F) they did their best with mask policy. If someone gives bad rating for this then you’re odd and major in minor things. Lastly, the two reasons I’d go 4 stars is the pricing and wait. Again, a reason not to go? Not at all. But they up charge a bit for almond milk and a half caff request. Lattes are already up there but the extra charge of 1.50 for almond milk/half caff in a 12 oz. latte is unusual. Oh! G) they do have an internal points system! I almost forgot. Sometimes the credit/rewards are a nice surprise. Could be argued that that helps offset interesting up charges. All in all, they know what they’re doing and so a damn fine job. #SupportLocal and don’t get rattled over mask rules or perceived rudeness from staff. I’ve...
