My dog and I love this park. I hesitate to leave a review because right now it feels like a secret little spot that I want to keep off the map. So keep this between us, but this is one of the best off leash dog parks in the valley. There are benches places throughout and even a small pavillion with a couple of tables. It has a medium sized lower loop and if you want a mini climb it has a tiny upper loop. In the lowest part of the park there is a large drain that I would recommend keeping your dog away from to prevent broken limbs or injury. They tried to cover it with rocks, but its still a bit risky. The park is beautiful and has the "wild" look that so many other parks are missing. Unlike some other dog parks, the rocks are well placed so your dog is less likely to run into them and get hurt when playing. Why designers think dogs want mini boulders that they can break a few bones on by running into them is beyond me (looking at you, Sandy City Dog Park). The one bad thing about the area, which does NOT reflect on the park, rather the park users .... but many dog owners seem to be lacking entry and exit manners. Four or five times now I've had people open the gate to let their dogs in or out when my dog is already in the little entry pen. Wait your turn people! I've also seen people have another person's dog follow them in and rather than return them to the park they let their dogs out and leave them in the pen or run the risk of someone else's dog escaping. Why would you put someone else's dog at risk like that?? Anyway... aside from the bad entry and exit manners, this is a great park and a fun place to take your dog for...
Read moreIt was a good idea, the people and dogs that go there are great. However, Cottonwood Heights Recreation has created a park with tons of wasted space (too much trees and brush in areas so the dogs can’t even use it), and their “natural design” instead of grass might be pretty but it makes finding/collecting poop near impossible. The worst though is they run the sprinklers for hours in the middle of the day creating mud and large puddles, spraying sitting areas, and making it so dog owners don’t want to use the park. Samantha is over the park. She has been contacted multiple times, acknowledges the issues but refuses to step in and get anything done. Added 8/16/24: The other issue is while there are a few benches throughout, Cottonwood Heights Recreation created a central gathering area with one small pavilion. Everyone gathers here to talk and socialize so, of course, all the dogs gather in the same place. This creates anxiety for a lot of dogs and makes the park unbearable for many introverts. Setting up 3-4 separate gathering points would create more area usage - better for humans...
Read moreThis is a great park if you have a small, old or dog with zoomies that just needs a little time to be social and run around off leash on a small bit of property. It has a paved path that is 0.13 miles long and another shorter dirt path attached to it. Off trail it’s dirt and sage brush. Picnic tables and benches available. It does not have level ground grassy area for dogs to catch a frisbee or ball. It can be a mucky mess in the winter with all the mud. It’s too bad Golden Hills park can’t divide the large grassy space that is empty most of the time except soccer practice occasionally, and make it dog friendly. Apparently (per the Ordinance officer) this dog park is the only space in Cottonwood Heights where a dog can be off leash which is disappointing. The Old Mill pond could be turned into a GREAT off leash dog area that would be as fun as a dog park...
