TL,DR - Very fun, quirky, and unique hotel. Definitely not the bland, boring chain experience. Delicious, creative food. You can tell it was made with love. Excellent craft brew selection. Wonderful live music. Warm, down-to-earth staff. Building is a work in progress, and it shows, also has some scuffs and age spots. Worth it every time. I will be back to stay again in the future.
I stayed here during the same weekend as the Potter County marathon in 2018. I ended up with the King Suite that overlooks the main drag in Coudersport. The road noise was a little much through the night, but I switched the fan on the A/C to be on constantly and it helped smooth out the traffic noise. The room was spacious, clean, and very cute. The air conditioning worked well and the sitting area would have worked great for us if I had brought my kids on this trip. The furnishings and décor are eclectic and pulled together to create an artful, warm environment. This is a really neat old building and I really enjoyed the feel of the space. There are renovations underway to improve the building and I can imagine it's a bit like whack-a-mole with a building this large and old.
I enjoyed a swoon-worthy barbecue burger and fresh-cut fries along with some excellent craft brews the night I stayed here. The bisque was great, too. There was wonderful live music that evening by a guy called Shine Delphi (seriously, check him out!). It seems like the folks that are running this restaurant really care about bringing great music in.
Early in the morning, I wished for black out blinds on the beautiful, large windows in the room. If you do get up early, the morning sun in that room is beautiful, coming in through the sheers.
The other item of note about my stay is that when I went to take a shower in the morning, it took a long...long... very long time for the hot water to arrive. I was getting concerned to the point I thought I was going to have to take a cold shower and contact the manager. But then, just as I was bracing myself for a brisk spritz, the warm, then hot water finally arrived. There was plenty of hot water, once it finally got there. I mentioned it to the manager when I checked out. I learned that the water heater is in the basement, so it has a long way to travel before reaching the rooms (super-high ceilings on each floor, too). Chandra (the GM) and everyone on staff here was warm,...
Read moreI've been coming to Coudersport for 9 years now and never had a chance to stay at the Hotel Crittenden, but always wanted to. Finally, after 9 years, I've had the chance and it's not at all what I had anticipated for the following reasons: ||||1. No overnight hotel staff--as a matter of fact, there wasn't any hotel staff available shortly after I checked in, because they went home. ||||2. No breakfast (or vending machines)--not even fruit or a granola bar. ||||3. Outdated rooms with poor lighting, and beds that feel like they're about 20 years too old. Also, our bathroom sink had no hot water. ||||4. No heat in our room and it was 29 degrees and freezing rain while here (there is a split in the room; however, it was not working).||||5. Lack of Security--I realize Coudersport is a small town where everyone knows everyone, but when you have a hotel where people are coming in from out of town, you really need to think about physical security, keeping your hotel safe, your employees and your customers. There was no hotel staff there all night, the front doors were left unlocked, hotel computer system and cash register left completely exposed and at risk to be tampered with--a crime of opportunity just waiting to happen! ||||6. Rate--the cost to stay there is overpriced considering the current COVID situation with many places being closed, and it's overpriced considering the quality of the hotel and service. I can go down to the West Gate Inn or to Millstream Inn, pay the same for a room and get much better quality and service! ||||Unfortunately, it saddens me to say this, but I'm disappointed with my experience and will not...
Read moreFantastic little place to stay if you're doing anything in the area. It's the absolute closest thing to Cherry Springs State Park aside from camping. We were there to try to catch the Lyrids.
Don't expect the Holiday Inn. If you do you will be disappointed. This is not a cookie cutter hotel. This is a very small hotel, just a few rooms, all of which seem large and well appointed. You do have to understand that this is a very old historic building. Again, it does not look like the Holiday Inn. If you can have realistic expectations of what a hotel can be, this could be a great place for you. If you expect geometric carpet in the hallway and every room to be identical this might not be the hotel for you. Think of it as renting a small apartment rather than a hotel room.
The staff (Chandra, I hope I'm spelling that right), was beyond helpful and happy and ready to help us with whatever we needed. Unfortunately we were there during the restaurant's renovation so we didn't get a chance to experience it. I will say that Cream n Sugar a few storefronts down was great. Get the bagel sandwich of the week.
All in all we had a great time and loved the Crittenden. It's not a matter of if we'll be...
