wE CAME READY TO SIT DOWN AND ENJOY THE FOOD AS THE REVIEWS GAVE THEM EXCELLENT MARKS. HOWEVER WE CALLED AHEAD TO CHECK IF THE TABLES WERE FILLED LEAVING US WITH THE IMPRESSION THIS WAS A SIT DOWN RESTURANT AS WELL AS TAKE OUT. aFTER SEATING OUR SELVES NO ONE WAITED ON US FOR 10 MINUTES NOR INFORMED ITS A SELF SERV STYLE. uPON ORDERING i CHOSE THE SPARE RIBS AND SHE CHOSE THE MUSHROOM FRIED RICE.mY SPARE RIBS WERE STRIPS OF TOUGH PORK SO OVER DONE i AVOIDED CHEWING . tHE SAUCE WAS THE BEST THING ABOUT THE SPARE RIBS. tHE RICE WAS GOOD . tHE PORTIONS ARE SERVED IN PLASTIC. THE REVIEWS SAYING THE CLERK TAKING ORDERS WAS RUDE ARE CORRECT. HE HAS NO PERSONALITY AND RATTLES OFF QUESTIONS FASTER THAN MOST CUSTOMER CAN ANSWER. tHE PORTIONS WERE AVERAGE BUT ORDINARY. nOTHING TOO GENEROUS. wE ASKED FOR WATER BUT FOUND IT WAS $1.50 A BOTTLE FROM THE COOLER. THEY RUN THIS PLACE SO TIGHT IT NEEDS A GRaESE JOB. I spent 10.50 for ribs tougher than leather and a pan of rice plus 1.50 for a water. WE asked for a bag when paying to leave but the cashier/clerk without personality acted like he did not know what a bag is until I grabbed a bag and waved it in front of him. There is nothing here to bring us back . No atmosphere, average chinese food, its more of a carry out than a restruant. If your real hungry this may be good for...

The rangoons were flat, with almost zero filling (I included 2 pictures) and the egg rolls are different; they didn't have good flavor, they were kind of mushy and super greasy as you can see in the other picture (that's all grease on a napkin that I had to hold under my egg roll as I ate it). My sesame chicken tasted like pine sol. The fried rice was super dry and had an odd texture. I'm not sure if the place has new owners or cooks or management or what, but it's NOT the "Number 1" choice for my Chinese food anymore!! Needless to say, I am not eating here ever again. I can WASTE $40-$60 anywhere .. **Even my guy had to drown his food in hot Chinese mustard and soy sauce to make it edible and he's not usually very picky.
Been eating here for years and LOVE it every time. I usually have sesame chicken with crab rangoons and fried dumplings, extra fried (both sides).. dumpling sauce is to die for. Rangoon pastry is light and flaky, while filling is perfectly sweetened. Never had anything I didn't like from here! And they are QUICK with...
Read moreMost chineese places in the area focus on cheap substandard food and I'll go as far as to say Chopstix in Akron and House of Hunan on Waterloo are HORRIBLE, but that is not to be confused with the House of Hunan on Exhange downtown or the one on 18 in Montrose--- they are fantastic and have great Sushi too...
But Number 1 Kitchen has a great deal on great tasting cooked right and well presented food... more for carry out than anything and right next door to Family Video... They do a great job on the Beef & Broccoli, Chicken & Snow Pea, General Tsos and have very good Crab Rangoon Oh, and also their fried rice is excellent.
And by the way, the last time I was there to pick up - my Dad said any time you can see INTO the kitchen at a restaurant... you know they are concerned with cleanliness and presentation.... and you can see right into the kitchen at #1.
I give it an 8.8 out of 10
I did have something with seafood in it that was not good... maybe sweet and sour shrimp... can't remember... but ended throwing it away because it tasted horrible but I think it was my taste buds not their cooking.
Give them a chance, you shouldn't be...
