We used Zoe’s Bakery for our wedding cake last year. We picked them because we really liked the baker, Shane, who came out and met with us to pick out the design. He was very personable and gave us a good price because what we wanted was very simple. We picked a 3-tier wedding cake with 2 flavors and a small groom’s cake that we wanted just for us.
We decided on the almond Amaretto which was excellent and the chocolate ganache which was just ok. For the grooms cake it was suppose to be red velvet but we ended up with carrot cake somehow. We selected Zoe’s almost 6 months before our wedding, so we had plenty of time to make adjustments and final decisions. We also went there to buy multiple king cakes and birthday cakes prior to the wedding.
The day after the wedding we went to finally have our cake and discovered it was carrot cake and not red velvet. I called the bakery and spoke with some snarky young woman who advised that we picked carrot cake. I advised her that we did not, we originally did but I had changed it in person with Shane when I was there in the spring (5 months before our wedding) to pick up a birthday cake I had ordered. I even had the staff check the file two days before the wedding when I came to drop off the final payment. Not only did I provide dates and times but even described who I spoke with each time. The snarky young lady then stated she found only one paper in my file and it stated carrot cake in my husband’s handwriting so therefore it was not their fault. My husband was only with me for the initial taste testing and design selection, and never wrote anything out.
We have never been back since. It should be noted I kept very detailed records while planning the wedding down to the checks, dates, times, and who I spoke with when deciding on details. I filed them all in an excel spreadsheet to track vendors and payments. The venue director stated I was the most organized bride she had ever worked with. I have an issue when some inexperienced store clerk is rude and blames me for their mistake instead of just saying “we are really sorry how, about we replace it or refund just the small cake and get you something else.” That is what they should have done.
I had physical proof of what was ordered. I asked to speak with Shane, but he was conveniently out. Also, the reason we did not do the carrot cake is because it was not very good when we tried it compared to the red velvet which we had tasted and ordered before. Needless to say, they lost our business. If you are looking for a good cake or pastry, I found out Fresh Market, much to my surprise, has the best bakery in the area I also hear Coco Beans is good as well but...
Read moreAbsolutely horrible. I ordered a cake for my daughter’s first birthday party and left there in tears! I sent them a picture of what i wanted which wasn't hard or that detailed at all, and when i went to pick it up it looked like someone who had no idea what they were doing decorated the cake. When i told them this they tried arguing with me and telling me that i said i wanted it like that. NOBODY would want a cake that ugly. They all had attitudes and took the cake back to “fix” it. They told me it would take 15 minutes and came back out an hour later with a slightly less horrific cake at 2pm, 4 HOURS after the time i was promised my cake would be ready and it was still not what i wanted or paid for. At that point i was going to be late for my own daughters birthday party and with no cake so i just took it. And i wish I wouldn’t have. It tasted like they didnt bake the cake all the way through. It was very soggy and I’m embarrassed i even served it to my guests. Nobody liked the cake. They also gave a “complementary” smash cupcake with my order for my daughter which looked worse than the cake and it was covered with nothing but buttercream. You could barely see the “cake” my poor girl looked like a glazed donut at her party and even she didnt want to eat it or smash it. Honestly if you value your time and money and don’t want to be disrespected for a service you PAY for just go to the mandeville bake shop instead. That’s what I should’ve done. I decided to try zoe’s because it was close to our new house. Never again....
Read moreUnbelievable I ordered a 3 tier cake from Zoes last month. I called last week8 to make sure the cake would be ready for yesterday October 24, 2020. The girl who answered the phone assured me my cake would be ready . I asked her how does she know she didn't ask my name. Then I gave my name and we proceeded from there. Yesterday my husband waited about 20 minutes to get the cake. When he came out the door I couldn't believe my eyes. He was handed the 3 tier cake we ordered with NO BOX. I went inside and asked the girl "Where's the box" She told me they don't box big cakes. I have bought to many cakes to know they have a box. I also know you cut two boxes to cover a big cake. I asked for two boxes she told me no they don't do that. She brought me saran wrap to cover this expensive cake. This cake was for my Mother in laws 80th birthday party. I asked her if she has lost her mine. I took the cake to the party without a box and mad as hell. The cake was pretty. I was told it tasted good. I wasn't impressed with the run down little house house they work out of. The grass is overgrown. I think the girls at the counter need a training class. Also I'm a previous employee of a bakery and never does a cake leave it's store without a box....The picture used in their web site is not the place I was at. They must have moved. BTW I'm sure a cake that's over $200...
