Lemme just say that for 10 years I’ve worked customer service. Food service included. Normally I don’t care about subpar experiences with places cause everyone has off days and nobody is a robot so stuff happens. But today just caused me to have to review without that buffer.
First of all, they have had a brand change. They are “My Waffle” now. I don’t know if that is linked to the decline we experienced today or not but just know that it’s no longer Mr. Waffle.
This place is a couple blocks from my apartment so my dad and I have been here a few times. It’s always been fine. Not spectacular but not bad. Prices have always been kinda high and food has been fine but service has generally been nice.
Today not so much. So... One star docked because the price is high for what you get. Another star docked because service was sub par. It wasn’t terrible but not great. Normally I don’t care but it’s still a star off. One star refunded because the food was still good despite the price. Three stars removed because of the main reason of me posting. My dad is highly allergic to fish and after we ate he noticed he was. Having a reaction. He paid and enquired if they had fish on the menu. The waitress said she would ask and went in the back then came back and told us only fish patties for the fish sandwiches. I let her know we were curious cause he is highly allergic to fish and he was having a reaction. My dad mentioned that since they have fish so that was probably it. The waitress then proceeded to get SUPER defensive, almost to the point of hostile, over it. Saying there’s no way cause they didn’t do fish yet. And when my dad pointed out it coulda been from last night she almost snapped that they close in the afternoon. Etc. now... we already paid AND tipped. We weren’t even close to asking for anything. And regardless. THAT ISNT HOW YOU ACT WHEN A CUSTOMER MIGHT BE HAVING AN ALLERGIC REACTION IN YOUR ESTABLISHMENT. She showed zero concern. Didn’t ask if we needed an ambulance. Didn’t care at all. Didn’t apologize. Didn’t check to see if there was anything that mighta been cross contaminated. Nothing. She just got snappy and defensive.
This doubles with telling me there is a high probability that she is aware that they are cross contaminating or not properly cleaning things in the kitchen. Because there is few other ways he would have gotten a reaction. He just woke up and had nothing prior so the allergic reaction came from here. There is literally no other place.
But honestly it happens. That isn’t the issue (however the cross contamination or lack of cleanliness does pose a concern) the main issue is the reaction when we asked about the fish and mentioned that it probably was why he was having an allergic reaction. Like I said, you don’t get defensive with a customer when they mention they are having an allergic reaction. You make sure they’re ok and try to troubleshoot what may have caused it.
That...
Read moreIf I could rate this no stars, I would. This is probably the worst breakfast I’ve paid for, ever. Over $4 for a large OJ from a plastic gallon jug... okay, I get it. Breakfast shows up, and I only ordered the most basic of meals: 2 over-easy eggs, hash browns, bacon, and raisin toast. The eggs were oozing raw whites, the bacon was translucent and soggy and still raw, and the hash browns were one hard sheet of crust on the bottom that wouldn’t break apart, with nothing but raw potatoes in the middle. Completely and utterly flavorless even after salt and pepper. The toast was alright - just a bit hard and stale and I had to wait for two tables to be served food before being given my toast, where I proceeded to finally ask for my bacon to be thrown on for another minute - the server joking about how it should be “pig that’s a little less alive”.... and I replied “Yeah, it’s pretty alive.” Perhaps it was the face I was making after digging in and realizing how bad everything tasted, but our server did not come back. She dropped the check and didn’t ask anything and scooted away. I’m assuming she is aware of the quality, and I feel bad for her being in that position (I am a former server). I will never go back there, and urge you not to even waste your money. Sunday brunch is a huge deal and I feel you should have your best staff on-hand cooking for this eventful day. Next time I will put my name in and wait at The Southern - where I’ve loved my meal every single time. Also, I never do reviews... but this is just how upset and still hungry I am - after paying for...
