I live locally and come back about once every 9-12 months hoping for a better experience (and food) because of the rave reviews and every time I leave disappointed. It's a local business and so I usually try to give them the benefit of the doubt, but I have never had food that doesn't make me sick from greasiness or being overly sweet from here.
So today I got a meat pie and a lemon bar. Meat pie was meh, not super flavorful and far from the best I've had but the meat was generous and it was good enough.
The lemon bar was missing the lemon filling on half of it so I went inside and asked if the lemon bars are supposed to have lemon filling (the answer is an obvious YES). The person responded that she didn't know because she didn't make them and said she would check with the people who make it and did nothing to remediate the poor excuse of a lemon bar sans lemon.
So I tried to enjoy my meringue bar and ended up discovering while deconstructing that the lemon curd filling had no tartness and was just sweet, the meringue is overly sweet and the crust tasted like flour. Which, as someone who loves bread, is usually a good thing. But it was just a brick of flavorless flour.
So I was disappointed enough after 3 or 4 visits with food that failed to satisfy and the poor customer service of today to leave this whine about a lemon...
Read moreI was sitting by a guy on the airplane coming into Eugene and he lived in creswell. I asked him if this bakery was really what all the hype was about. He thought about it and he said yes. Then three other women on the airplane turned around and added... The pies are amazing. The cinnamon rolls are so good. So I made a trip out there on a Sunday morning. It was so charming. Picnic tables all around the cafe. Inside was a display of cookies and breads, breakfast pockets folded and brioche. My recommendation is get a cinnamon roll, plain, pecans, whatever your fancy. I also heard the danishes are excellent. I had a breakfast pocket, which was good, but i really recommend the cinnamon rolls. They were special. They're much fluffier than a cinnabon, and just the right of sweetness without being overpowering. They're sticky, but not out of control. It was just right. I will frequent this place again. I will bring guests here from out of town. I really do feel the pastries here are that special. Focus on the sweet things. I hear the bread is delicious too And it looked like it was. The crust on the breads looked amazing. Give it a try, eat outside at the picnic tables. It's surrounded by cherry trees and fig...

HOLY MOTHER OF GOD this place makes one good roast beef sandwich!!!
I was on the fence about ordering one when I saw the price- they aren't cheap- but maybe this just means they are confident in their craft. So I ordered, and waited a few minutes for them to make it, put it in a paper bag with some chips and call my name.
Before taking a bite, I thought this looks like it might be a tough, dry, and crumbly ciabatta roll...something I'll have to chew my way through before getting to the good stuff. But I was wrong! It was excellent!!! The freshly-baked roll had been toasted to give a nice crunch on the outside, but it was perfectly soft and warm on the inside. The roast beef itself was very high quality, and cooked perfectly - as long as you like it rare- and that's how it should be. Add the romaine lettuce (was it romaine?) and the thick slices of moderately sharp cheddar cheese, thin slices of purple onion, along with the spicy spread, and this was one worthy sandwich!
Get one and enjoy it, and maybe you'll be writing a 5...
